Inflammation of elbow joint?

My partner and I have been training at the gym recently and he's been on the extra protein shakes and caffeine energy boosters whereas I have not and just today his elbow joint started hurting and swelling up.

It's not the whole arm but just the elbow.. He doesn't feel any pain when raising his arms into the air, but feels it when he tries to stretch his arm forward.. We've made an appointment to go see the doctor but I'm suspecting it's something from all those protein shakes and caffeine boosters he's had..

Anyone have similar problems?

Actually, I get that kind of thing from work where I lift heavy things sometimes; it's not too terrible, though I would definitely still see a doctor. Protein shakes wouldn't do anything like that to you, but caffeine....it's probably not good to use too many. :<

Either he strained a ligament in his elbow or just bursitis. We have a bursa in the olecranon process (the pointy thing in your elbow) which is kind of a cushion for the bony process in your elbow. working out can irritate the bursa which can lead to pain and swelling. Definitely not due to protein shakes - I'm a PT :)

Most likely your partner has bursitis on his elbow.it is not relate to his special diet.On that area the bone only cover by the skin and not much sofe tissue when pressure apply to that area during training or his job will become irritate and result of inflammation and fluid will accumulate and become swelling.
