Wedding photographer or DJ...which to book first?
I'm planning a wedding for June of 2010 and since I know things book up fast, I'm trying to do stuff as early as possible. But I'm wondering which tend to book up faster...DJs or photographers? Which one should I try to book first? My wedding is going to be in Southeastern Wisconsin if that helps at all.

Book your photographer first. Most of us quality wedding photographers book weddings 9 to 18 months in advance, and only book a limited number of weddings per year.
Have a fantastic wedding!

Photographer.
Because you want to make sure you get the photographer you want (after meeting with them and looking through their books). Once that person is booked, you'll have to settle for someone else.
With a DJ, yes you should get one you like, but there are a lot of talented DJs out there, and they don't have the lasting affect on your wedding like the pictures will. As long as you get a DJ that you like and will follow a play list, then you're good I think.
Good Luck!

While your wedding is not during the most popular time of the year, I would still say that 6-12 months out is not unreasonable, particularly if you have a short list of sought-after photographers that you are interested in hiring. I would certainly say that it is not too early to start shopping photographers, as in checking their prices and availability for your date, as well as looking at sample albums and portfolios to see what they offer. Once you have determined which photographer you prefer to use, ask him/her how far ahead to reserve the date, and what type of deposit is required. Until the date is set in stone (venue reserved, other services secured) you don't want to be locked in to a particular date, but I would think that the photographer would have some flexibility in dates ahead of time and try to work with you if you have paid an initial deposit. I hate to even bring this up, but there was a question on here yesterday about returning gowns after a broken engagement--just keep in mind that all these services that you reserve ahead of time are likely non-refundable, so you need to be sure that the wedding is going to take place before you book and pay for lots of services.

Photographer goes faster than DJs....my wedding is this month, I booked my DJ first, still trying to get a photographer because everyone is almost booked..all that's left are the real expensive ones that don't fit my budget...

Photographer. Because of cost, many people use ipods these days and other alternative methods for music. Some still use the traditional bands for weddings. June is THE most popular month for weddings so book your photographer first.
Congrats baby girl!

i would think the photographer because not everyone would want a DJ at their wedding but everyone wants a photographer. :)

Photographer. The better ones limit themselves to a certain number of weddings a year so that a) they keep their images fresh and not boring and b) they need a life, too.

Photographer for sure. At least 9 months in advance. I did mine 9 months in advance and still had a really hard time finding one.
