Do you ride in any poker runs, if not, why not?

ABATE of Wisconsin, is trying to come up with more alcohol free poker runs. Or at least, less bar to bar, poker runs. We had one this last weekend, it was a good time.

If you don't go, on poker runs because of the drinking. Would you go, on a run with out the drinking? What kind of things, would you like to do or see? If you like bar to bar runs. Would you go on a run, that didn't have any, or just a few bars?

Thanks for the input.

Every poker run that I have gone on has been bar to bar. I would go on one that is not all bars if they had some decent stops. Unfortunately living in Nebraska you don't have a whole lot of scenic options.

There is one yearly run that has stops at all the dealers. You just stop at the dealers that you want to stop at. I have never gone on that run and am not really interested in going on that one either.

I have been on all kinds of poker runs with and without alcohol. While I do drink, I prefer the alcohol free rides. The rides that are bar to bar seem to have longer stops with less actual riding time, and less scenic routes. The only complaint I have about some the alcohol free runs, was that some of the stops didn't have any restrooms and my main concern became, "Where can I go pee and how far to the next stop?"

I do know some guys that won't ride anywhere if there is no alcohol, and others that won't ride if any alcohol is involved.

So while you may not be able to please everyone, I do wish you a big turnout and a safe ride!

The last poker run i went on a rider liked to have wrecked about 15 bikes. We were stopping at a red light when this "rider" came sliding up through us , slid out into the intersection almost got broadsided . I don't do poker runs anymore. You never know who and how long the person behind you has been on a bike, and what they may do when sh!t hits the fan. I would rather ride with an ole hand that has seat time even if he has a beer or two .

I use to go on a lot of them but they would only go about 30 miles and then stop at a bar and 30 more and another bar most were 100 miles.

It was for a good cause. But you ride with people that you don't know how good of a rider they are and have been drinking so i don't go on them any more

(but that's me, my weekend rides are at least 200 miles so that doesn't fit my riding style any more)

    Thank you ABATE good people!

I'm a long-time non-drinker and the problem I have with poker runs that go bar to bar is that the stops are boring

(although, once, a stop was at a bar that had belt sander racing; that was interesting).

I like stops that are at nature look-outs and places that figure in the local history, especially when I'm given clues rather than a map directly to the spot.

Yes, I have been on poker runs. I have been on the ones with bars and alcohol and without. They are both fun

Here in NC, we have gone to different scenic areas, or historic sites, as well as restaurants.

The Women in the Wind MC club I belong to is having one on June 14 and we will be stopping at a MC shop, a couple of restaurants, a scenic area and ending a flea market.

I don't like riding in large groups. Especially in groups of people I don't know. I've gone on a poker run from time to time. I don't think I've been on one where someone hasn't wrecked. Usually a rear end collision.

The runs I go on usually don't have any drinks. If they do, it's only at the end.

I don't have to worry about drunk fools, and I get to bring one of the girls.

One of my favorites is the Covered Bridge run. Always a nice ride.

All the poker runs around here stop at bars, and the bikers always have a beer or two at every stop, and the local Police turn their backs because the poker run money goes to a good charity, (sick child).

What I always notice its the guys with the Harley's that always have to park their bikes right in front of the bar so that all the other bikers have to walk past them to go inside the bar to get their cards, and the owners of these Harley's have to stand next to their bike and stare at everybody to make sure they look at and admire their bike!

Me? I like to look at Honda Gold Wings, BMW's, Ducati's, i could care less about a Harley!

Don't these Harley Owners look like fools when they think they are showing off and thinking they are better than anybody else just because they own and ride a harley?

I do all kinds of runs with all kinds of people and by far the most enjoyable are the sober runs. I really like the benefit runs for fallen soldiers and the toys for tots runs.
