Disney World for First Birthday?

I'm thinking of taking my son for his first bday to Disney World. Any suggestions on where to stay and what to do?

Honey, if I were you I'd wait until he's about five and take him to Disney World. One year old is too young to go, but that is your business. I wish I could afford to send every child in America there. I didn't get to go until I was 50 years old, but I've been five times now. What I'm trying to say if you can afford now and later by all means don't let me sink your boat. For some people it's a once in a lifetime trip and I want your child to be able to remember it. It you do go we always stay at the All STAR Movies and I think that is the best place for little children. Also the cheapest. Please tell you little one Happy Birthday from Pearl.

Well truthfully, I would wait until he is about three to take him. It would be much more enjoyable. But if you have already started planning, I would suggest either the Contemporary or the Polyneisian hotel because they are on the monorail which is much easier than boarding a bus when your son and you are tired. I would also avoid Epcot and Hollywood Studios because most rides are not baby friendly. I would also eat at the Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom for breakfast where Winnie the Pooh and Friends are the special guests. Also, buy the book "The Unoffical Guide to Walt Disney World With Kids" which gives great suggestions on which rides to ride. Have Fun!

We took our son at 91/2 months and he loved it. We joked when we got home that he was going through withdrawls. Take him to things that would be visually appealing to him. Our son loved the It's A Small World Ride, and he loved the fireworks. The grandparents also took us to the Hoop De Doo Musical review and his reaction to the performance was well worth the cost. We also made a special trip to the Mainstreet Barber where our son got his first haircut, which came with a certificate & special Mickey ears. I also wish I would have got him a silhouette portrait that they do on mainstreet, that would have been a great keepsake. I suggest that.

Go during the off seasons like right before Christmas or just after. Best cheap place to stay on site are the pop century or all star resorts. Everyone is right that he won't really remember it but it still is great to have a kid there. There isn't that much for a 1 year old to do but it still will be fun experience. Enjoy!

We took our daughter at 11 months old for the very first time. It was January and the weather was perfect.

While it's true she does not remember ANY of it nor did my husband and I ever expect her to we certainly do remember. Her expressions and reactions to many of the attractions are priceless. I will warn you, though, our daughter hated the characters. They scared her. So you may consider keeping them at a distance or slowly inching your son's way to them to get his reaction.

If your son hasn't had his first haircut yet you might want to take him to Harmony Barbershop at Magic Kingdom. That would make a nice story to tell him later in life. Don't forget your camera.

You can have a small cake made and brought out to your table at any of the restaurants at the parks. You'll have to make sure to pre-order. It would be nice if he could have his picture taken with Mickey at the time he gets his cake but then again he may be afraid. Or maybe not.

Although our daughter was only one (almost) we were able to do a lot of the rides with her. Small World was a favorite but we also rode Dumbo, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, the Carousel, etc. There will not be a shortage of things to do with your son as the parks have a lot of attractions for any age group.

If you can afford it I'd suggest staying at one of the deluxe resorts on the monorail to make it easy to return to your room for a nap from Magic Kingdom or EPCOT. All of the resorts have free available cribs upon request. The last time we used one there (nine years ago) the cribs were more like a play pen which my daughter had a hard time sleeping in. She ended up sleeping with us on our bed. Hopefully they've been updated.

Do take advantage of the Baby stations they have at each park. You can change him there, feed him, rest for a little while, and get out of the heat.

Have fun with your son's first visit. And don't allow others to discourage you from taking him at this age. Just because they have reservations doesn't mean your decision is wrong.

Many people would say that your son wouldn't remember, but I remember by trip fromw hen I was 3 months old.

Stay in a value resort, he won't remember it, but it would be cheap for you.

    Pop Century Resort is good.

Go to Magic Kingdom, but don't do big rides (Mad Tea Party is a big ride)

Go to ToonTown a lot because kids love there.

If not, go to the Winnie the Pooh, Pooh's Resting Area.

Avoid character greets for this if your son is cared of costumes.

Don't do sit down restauraunts and go like a tourist.

Ther are more places to stay than you can shake a stick at. depends on your budget.

At 1 yrs old the children tend to suffer with the heat and humidity.

try to come during the cooler months not summer.

    Best of luck

The child will be miserable. It's hot, crowded, humid and there will be no memory of this for the child. You will also be Hot and miserable with a one year old to take of also.

Stay Home, save this for a time when you can both enjoy it.

i think you should rethink where you are taking your son for his first birthday, as he is too young for any of the rides, and too young to interact with any of the shows going on. he wont remember it anyway. why not go somewhere else and save a lot of money.
