Do we really need a report button in the whole general mish mash I call the R&S Universe?

I propose that if we have a problem with a question or answer we should, instead of reporting it immediately,e-mail the individual explaining our position. I propose that on receiving one of these mails we consider the complaint and if the argument is strong enough, delete the question or answer. I further propose that we reply to these mails with our argument and if it's strong enough the matter is dropped.

Thoughts? Feelings? Jokes?

Update:

I propose we report spam at every opportunity.

Update 2:

Zero, good point,I propose that we open our e-mails.

Update 3:

Punky, you Australians,I still have pieces of gravel in my skull from my bush fire answer.

Update 4:

oh now look at that, someone just generalised all over my question,aw who's going to clean that up?

I think that reports at least shouldn't be anonymous.

The report monkeys might not feel so strongly against a question if they're forced to actually own up to the fact they reported it.

I know I'm personally very happy to explain my position to people regarding any questions/answers I post, and if anyone else can't say the same, they shouldn't be posting.

The very people who most desperately deserve the report button are the ones who would be least affected by other means. In addition, not everyone posts their email address. On top of that, if someone emailed me with a complaint and i didn't accept their reasoning, wouldn't that give them incentive to report me anyway (because they have 'lost' the high ground). Also, if a person who is creating harmful or offensive questions is not reported immediately, this method will give them more time to post many more questions afterword before they are stopped. I agree that we need to be more civil around here, don't get me wrong, it's just that a open forum community by its very nature can't be forced into being 'tame'.

That would never work, there are a lot of people on Yahoo Answers (myself included), who do not display their email address on their profiles for privacy reasons.

Personally I have a user profile set up for people to send me massages and or feedback, if they have a problem with any q&a I have posted, but not everybody is willing to do this, unfortunately some people just do not want to be bothered.

I think Yahoo Answers needs an abuse system similar to what the good people on YouTube have. The Flagging system. If offensive content is posted, it is flagged an YA would review the content in order to see if it actually violates the community guidelines.

I know it kind of sounds like the old system on Yahoo Answers, but unfortunately it really wasn't enforced enough. Yahoo simply need to be as consistent as YouTube is in reference to flagged content. If YouTube can review flagged material, so should Yahoo be able to do so.

And also Yahoo need to restore the Appeal system, which is practically non-existent at this stage, since Yahoo are only responding to Appeals with automatic messages.

Anyway, that's my view on the issue.

A lot of what's reported are Q&As that are flat-out antagonistic. Sending emails to these people I feel wouldn't do any good. And atheist's general deriding sarcasm is how they communicate with others on R&S and no matter how many times they're reported, they're not going to change, so sending them emails wouldn't matter. I've had my questions deleted when I didn't violate the TOS and would rather have Yahoo monitor YA than dealing with atheist psychos.

What YA could at least do when they delete your stuff is to tell you why, instead of just writing that it violated their TOS.

How about we all just use the "Punky Philosophy". If they say something you don't like. Throw rocks at them.

  • I already proposed what people should do in my profile... like anyone will listen lol

    Have a good one!!!

    Cinn =)

  • i propose that if someone doesn't like your question or answer then they should ignore it...how hard is that?

reporting people is childish and usually malicious.

    my thoughts.
