Martial Arts Athletes Question.....Gamma-O/Supplements?

For those of you who consider yourselves athletes, as well as martial artists, or MMA practitioners....

Have you ever used the supplement GAMMA-O? If yes, please include your age at the time you used it, how you used it, and what benefits, if any, you experienced?

I have used protein powders and creatine for years, but never really experimented much with others.

I recently began using nitric oxide enhancers, glutamine and leucine/arginine metabolism boosters and was really surprised and pleased with the results.

I have never tried GAMMA-O, but it is endorsed by a number of competitive fighters and I have considered it.

James

Update:

Scandal: Larger doses of creatine is found primarily in beef, steak to be more specific. Your body does produce it naturally but it supplementation can aid in muscle water retention, which can result in quicker recovery times. For the weekend warrior, supplementation is not really needed, but for someone who works out strenuously several times a week for more than an hour, it can be beneficial.

Update 2:

I am not looking for dialog about the use of or safety of supplements. I am very familiar with the FDA and regulatory issues from a professional standpoint.

I am looking for the experience of those that have used them. And the age they were at the time they used them!

I have never heard of Gamma-O and don't use those types of supplements because of one thing - they are usually filled with artificial ingredients and colors and such.

Those athletes endorse them for money, of course, but some really don't use them. They give it away.

I use a product called Muscle, made by Gary Null. You really have to check what are the sources of the ingredients on some of these products. Creatine is an animal byproduct - from what animal?

Your body naturally produces creatine from your internal organs.

Just get some good supplements, antioxidants and green and red powders.

Unless you have a doctor or a nutritionist who is telling you to take a very specific supplement, I recommend against them. They are simply unsafe.

For a medicine to get approved to be sold the FDA requires three separate studies that are several years long and they inspect the company top to bottom for quality control. Everything from how people are hired to how clean the equipment is. Everything they claim the medicine does is documented as is every known side-effect and how often it happens. After all of this, sometimes medicines still get through that end up causing bad side effects and are recalled.

For a supplement to get approved to be sold the FDA requires NOTHING! There is no testing, no quality control, nothing. Once it's on the market, the FDA will track complaints and recall it if something is found to be wrong. That makes the people taking them human guinea pigs.

    From the FDA's web site:

"FDA regulates dietary supplements under a different set of regulations than those covering "conventional" foods and drug products (prescription and Over-the-Counter). Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), the dietary supplement manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that a dietary supplement is safe before it is marketed. FDA is responsible for taking action against any unsafe dietary supplement product after it reaches the market. Generally, manufacturers do not need to register their products with FDA nor get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements.* Manufacturers must make sure that product label information is truthful and not misleading.

"FDA's post-marketing responsibilities include monitoring safety, e.g. voluntary dietary supplement adverse event reporting, and product information, such as labeling, claims, package inserts, and accompanying literature. The Federal Trade Commission regulates dietary supplement advertising."
