Most of the top ten world's happiest countries are secular nations with declining christian populations?

According to Business week, the world's happiest countries in 2009 are:

1. Denmark

2. Switzerland

3. Austria

4. Iceland

5. Bahamas

6. Finland

7. Sweden

8. Bhutan

9. Brunei

10. Canada

Most of the countries on here are European countries that are very secular and have declining Christian populations. They are also very big on gay rights, like sweden which allows gay marriage. Two of the countries barely have any christians: Bhutan and Brunei. Bhutan is Buddhist and Brunei is Muslim. America comes in 23rd on the list, one of the most Christian countries in the world.

Why isn't American on top with all it's happy Christians? Why are the secular, non-Christian Europeans on top?

They know all about misery cos they believe there's an invisible space chappie perving on them 24/7, even in the shower and toilet, AND totally believe that if they're naughty the big beardy sky guy will swoop down offa his cloudie, graaab them, and put'em in his cooking pot ... such is the unconditional love of their 'god' thingie.

There's little difference between xian and muslim - they both despise free people.

I guess it's because whatever people's belief system is would always make them the happiest. Who would believe something that does not make them happy?

Since America is a mixture of all cultures and beliefs, Christianity which has stood for such a long time in America stays strongest force in the nation. When there are so many races, nationalities, and cultures in this country, there would always be ONE that stands out the most which kind of unifies the entire nation. Also, since Christianity is derived from the West, its power remains strong in America over all the religions from the East.

Not only do people believe what they believe bring them happiness and well being, but also feel better when they stay with their western culture instead of that from the East.

Europe, on the other hand, does not have many immigrants as America does. People do not seem to need to fight for this religion as much; there are many less religious choices there. As we evolve, religion does evolves too. People do not believe in religions as much as before. People thrive for something more high-tech instead. They are happier with how they evolve.

Morality is not supposed to be subjective. But this is the current view in post-modern RELATIVISM. In fact, it's called "moral relativism". This is countered to the moral "absolutism" which God proffers in the bible. This morality is fixed and absolute. It has never wavered or changed. Why? Because it is the inherent CHARACTER of God. And it is this ontology which we are supposed to adopt as Christians (and Jews). It is this absolute morality which was the foundation for the creation of the United States in 1776. All the founding documents reiterate this morality from God as "natural law" or the "law of God". It is this natural law which was written into legal law which describes the RIGHTS of being human in this world. The most basic part of this natural law and then civil/legal law is personal freedom and the rights gained in that freedom. The right to life. The right to liberty. The right to pursue happiness. The right to bear arms. The right to free speech. The right to assembly. (and there are dozens more! ) This is the reason the United States become the most powerful nation on earth. It's not by tyranny that a government sustains, but by granting FREEDOM to its people!

You have to look at what was defined as "Happy" for this survey. This isn't about personal happiness but about satisfaction. The study looked into factors like education levels, how much money someone earns, health statistics, the country's economic strength, etc.

Capitalist based nations with strong economies ranked higher than non capitalist nations.

So this has nothing to do with religion, or if those who follow a particular religion are happy. Remember, you can be as healthy and rich as possible, but still be miserable.

There is an interesting report from 60 minutes on the happiness of Denmark. Basically they say that they are much more reclusive with others and also have paid school and health care. They have the attitude that everyone should live life their own way if it doesn't harm other people. I don't think it really has much to do with religion and if so maybe they just keep it too themselves more than Americans do.

It is very hard to find a true Christian now. They try to act Christian, well some of them, but it doesn't come natural as it should. They are to busy complaining that they can't have sex out of marriage, with the same sex, do drugs, etc. These countries with less and less Christians, are more free in what they think they can do, making them happier.

The happy people of Sweden and Finland also have the highest suicide rates in Europe. Switzerland is a supporter of euthanasia. I guess its easy to have a happy population if all the depressed people kill themselves off.

Christians are stuck being miserable on Earth because suicide get you to eternal misery in Hell.

    Oh, and Austria is Christian.

What, exactly, is legal in Denmark that is not legal in the US? Precious little, I would think. It is the massive social net that these people enjoy in at least five of the first seven countries.

Who needs God when Daddy Government will be there for you?

Because thing that make you happy are big no no to Christians.

As you said, their Christian populations are declining. If this is the case, then they are also probably losing their happiness, too. Also, why are you asking this about Christianity and not other religions? These countries arent fully Christian.
