How long does it take to plan a Wedding?

I got engaged on Sunday :-D :-D and we want to start wedding planning. We have no idea where to start, how long it will take, how much it will cost.....I know it depends on the wedding, but some kind of idea would help us greatly. Please share your experiences xx

I did all the wedding planning in a year, you need to book the church or the registry office first and then the place where you will have your reception. Once thats done its a good idea to sort out your guest list, who you will have as bridesmaids, matron of honour, ushers if you are having them, best man etc.,

Sort out your colour scheme and decide whether you want a sit down meal or a buffet and if you are having a DJ or a live band.

Here are just a couple of 12 month countdown planners, you will need at LEAST 1 year to do all the planning right down to the last detail.

I have just finished mine its taken me from last June till now and I still have to get bridesmaids shoes, wrap the presents up, sort out table plans (we are having a sit down meal) liaise with the photographer, have my trial hair do, decide what make up I am going to wear, do a list of songs I want as background music whilst people eat before the band come on, buy some sexy lingerie ( !! ), order the fresh flowers for the bouquets, buy some little presents for the people that have helped us out, i.e. my friend is doing the bridesmaids hair, liase further with the reception venue organiser and present her with table plans for seating and special diets anyone has, confirm with the cars what time they will collect us, we have not had our wedding rings back yet from the jewellers ............the list goes on and I really did not want to have to do anything at all in the month of May since my wedding is on 6th June. I am going crazy here.

Oh by the way Good Luck !! and congratulations

Congratulations!!! Wishing you & your fiance the best during your engagement. I personally have started planning since February of this year for my wedding on May (5 months from now). I got the ceremony location/reception right away! I think a year or more is always good. It takes a while to get everything, there is a lot of details to be covered. Goodluck, it will be worth it, dont let anyone tell you otherwise.! My word of advice is that your mind will change with colors or ideas and it's okay...don't let anyone make you stick to something that you dont want, its your wedding and you have the right to change your mind. Therefore dont get any decorations right away- leave that until the end because you'll know down the line what colors you like. The first thing is to look for a Ceremony location & Reception, then all the other vendors (photographer, dj, videographer, florist..etc) Mine went from a beach theme to a garden theme due to my ceremony/reception location & so my colors changed from Tiffany blue to green & white..But im so happy!!! ;-) xoxo

Congratulations. Well like you said hun it all depends on what type of wedding you want. I got married last November in Gretna Green in a lovely little chapel. We did it all properly and I had the big beautiful white dress, limo, champagne however we only took three people with us as we wanted an intimate wedding it was the best day of my life. This only cost us £2,500 including all the clothes, limo and hotel to stay in after. We got engaged on 2nd October and got married on 15th November so it didn't take us long at all :). It all depends what you want.

it depends when do you want to get married wedding can be very expensive. you can arrange them in no amount of time you just needs the right contacts. if i wre you i would go to the church if your getting married in a church or where ever you are getting married and book that first and see what available date there is then i would figure out where do you want your reception if you want and book that because those two things are the really big things then you will get numbers for cars limos etc on google. You can even find really nice wedding dresses on the internet.

    Ah Congrats : )

We planned our wedding in less than six months and had the std church wedding/formal reception. I found this was ample time to do it all in. However, dresses can take 3-4 months to come in if you go to a bridal shop, which I didn't realise! We did get married "out of season" so maybe that helped ;)

Depending on the venue you want, a minimum of 12 months. If it helps, my friend in UK used this photographer and said he was excellent - www.oakesphotography.co.uk Good luck with the preparation!

a good amount of time is 12-18 months .

it gives you enough time to find a reception venue you like , it's a good length of time to save - how much is totally up to you .

buy a bridal magazine , preferably one for your city or state & if you find something you like , ring & enquire about it , make a list of average prices companies are charging for certain services ( music , catering , photography , officiant , etc ) , plan your budget accordingly .

also go on websites like theknot.com , they have a wedding budgeter .

    good luck & congrats .
