What is young earth creationalism?
I've seen it mentioned a few times here on answers and it's made me curious as to what the belief is.

It is the belief the earth is literally about 10,000 years old, although this figure varies from 6000 - 30,000 years.
For an "old earth" creationist, see the website of astrophysicist Dr. Hugh Ross.......

It is a hypothesis that the Earth is somewhere between 6,000 years old and 50,000 years old.
Most of the data in the geologic record can be interpreted to support either a long (millions of years) or a short (a few thousand years) history for life on earth.
For example, many geological features could be formed by millions of years of erosion but equally could have been rapidly formed by a catastrophic flood.
When it comes to other scientific data that is used to calculate the age, some supports the long-age perspective and other data fits better in a short period.
It will therefore continue to be subject to debate until more evidence comes to light one way or the other.

It is a segment of the Christian community who believes that the earth was spoken into existence around 4004 BC, without evolution. Most of Christianity accepts the scientific view, but the YEC are a very vocal minority.

It's a fringe conspiracy theory that the entire worldwide scientific community consisting of millions of people is lying to everyone about everything, from the speed of light to the age of the planet, for no apparent reason.

This question is one that could probably start a war. I would like to suggest that regardless of your opinion on the age of the earth, it would behoove you to keep in mind that all scientific "evidence" is really just theory. Regardless of what "proof," evolutionists or creationists believe, there is really only theory for both. Sadly, our scientific community has a tendency to base one theory using a previous theory as proof. But a theory is just a theory it is not scientific law. In all my years of studying evolution, not one scientist has been able to direct me to any proof that the "link" from one species to another has been discovered. Darwin himself admitted that this was the one flaw with his theory that he regretted he could not come up with but he was convinced that in the future someone would be able to find it and thus "prove" his theory. As of this morning, no one ever has. By the way if there are any scientists out there who have discovered this proof, please send it to me.
Looking at young earth creationism from this point of view, one would have to deduct that not only is young earth creationalism possible, but as yet, no one has been able to prove otherwise.

It's the idea that the earth is only about 6000 years old, and the idea is based upon counting the generations of people in the bible from Adam to Jesus, and Jesus until now.
The idea doesn't have much merit.

A bunch of very delusional people who are completely removed from reality. They live in fantasy land.

They believe Earth is only 7,000 or so years old and was created by God in a literal 7 days exactly how the Bible says.

People who unquestioningly believe that the Bible is literal and that the world was created in six days, six thousand years ago. They blatantly dismiss all evidence that contradicts this.

YECs are fundie creationists, who insist that their deity of choice made the universe, Earth and everything on it 6000 years ago.
Something about calculating the number of generations stated in the bible.
