A question to the Harley riders?

I just spent 4 days riding in the mountains in Tn. and Nc. (Deals Gap- Tail of the dragon) now I am not Harley hater i have owned 2. I now ride sport bikes, but when i was on the tight twisty roads it was always

some one on a Harley that wanted to race with me . Now let me ask

you if you saw some one on a sport bike with full race leathers on and

the bike was set up to run on the track why would you even try to screw with them? one missed a turn and almost went over the cliff

Update:

this was not just one time it happened a lot and as i said i do not have any thing against Harleys i had 2 also i am not a kid i am 53 (choppy any time let's do a track day)

I think both of you are rubs!

There is lots of reason someone would want to race but Deals Gap is not the place for that. Just for the recorded more sport bike riders have die on Tail of the Dragon than any other bike riders. So many be the HD rider was trying to bait you, so you would get a way from him.

It doesn't matter what kind of bike you ride. Almost everyone wants to race sometime or another. Just to see if they can beat you. Just because the factory, doesn't make them to race. Doesn't mean the owner, can't make it a racer. Hell, I've raced my pick up truck at Slinger speedway. Against cars there was no way I could beat. Still a blast to try though. Taking on a sport bike with a Harley is even more fun because. The Harley, shouldn't beat the sport bike, ever. But the rush of trying and maybe winning. Is something else.

I would not race a guy on a sport bike I have owned them in the past and they are made for cornering where are a Harley is a cruiser. No need to hate Harley riders or anyone for the bike they ride let that be because of their actions.

There's a lot of muscle in those harley's. Obviously they can't hold a candle to a sportbike in performance but any chest bangin, ball hangin, red blooded man, will open up their beast almost every safe chance they get.

The noise, vibration, open air, and thrill is no different from sportbike to chopper. The same rush we get from dropping a gear and gettin a handful of throttle, is the same rush they get from doing the same thing.

The cliff doesn't discriminate over which bike is going over. Everybike up there has a fair shot and taking the leap.

a road like that, an experience rider on a harley can stomp on an inexperienced kid on a rocket. The Harley rider probably thought you were one of those kids (he couldn't tell with your helmet on.) He wanted to make you like like a fool by losing to a guy on a performance-wise inferior bike. It blew up in his face though.

Source(s): '99 softail, I talk to a lot of other Harley riders.

I'm with Byron, one guy may or may not have been challenging you in some way, big effin deal. To generalize this question to Harley riders is a bit judgmental don't you think? Like this one guys is the poster child for all Harley riders. People get a little excited on the Dragon. I mean it is probably the most technical stretch of road they will ever ride. Loosen up dude. It sounds a bit arrogant to basically say "how dare you challenge me and my full race leathers on your cruiser".

They may think, you have the bike that goes fast but maybe not the heart. They are busa riders that woun't go over 90mph.

    Figure that one out.

I know were you are coming from this has happened to me several times i think they just have no clue as what a sport bike can do on a curvy road

Wow....you were riding in Deal's Gap for 4 days then all of a sudden you hate Harleys and their riders because of one immature idiot?

But to answer your question, I would not try to race a guy on a sportbike. I would not try to race a guy on a Harley either. Nor would I try to race anyone on anything.

Hopefully you'll see things differently when you're in your 40's. It's a shame when people don't grow up.
