Why does Yahoo spell-check only recognise American spelling?

After all it's our language!

Update:

With respect psymon, there is no 'i' in analyse. If you didn't get a spell check on that one maybe it's because you have it turned off. That would explain why you didn't get a misspelling on the other words too.

That sucks that we can't differentiate which variety of English we use on this site, I wasn't aware of this before. That must get irritating. It probably is because Yahoo! is an American company but most sites give the user the option to choose whether they are speaking American, British and Australian English.

Colour, labour, analise, could go on, all spelt with British and not American spelling and no misspellings in sight.

Which words in particular did the spell-check not accept? I don't recall ever having a problem.

Of course it has to be in US English. Americans can only understand that. Foreigners have been brainwashed into understanding US spelling because they have had to since birth.

Why stop at words, how about dates?

Ever tried a true sort on US format dates?

the glaring section is that YA makes use of the yank spelling (lexicon). the reason at the back of the substitute via the US is a lot much less sparkling, in that President Roosevelt in 1906, issued a directive to have 3 hundred commonplace words to be spelt in any different case. No passable reason has ever been given for the substitute, the only reason ever provided to the ordinary public, replaced into that the words have been regularly misspelled. (looks to me to be a reason to advance the ordinary of preparation, relatively than decreasing the bar for consumer-friendly spelling errors).

I have an English spell check installed on my web browser works fine for yahoo. Americans do have a habit of stealing English things and pretending they made them.

    Source(s): 'analise' lol...

    Dat true?

Yahoo spellcheck is like a know-it-all (go on! pop up!) grumpy ol' geezer who finds fault too easily eg. when it lumps last 2 letters of one word with first 2 of next word and says it's spelt wrong. Ha!

    Source(s): 2 misspelling(s).

No idea -- I prefer non-butchered English myself, and tend to get irritated when I'm told I'm misspelling things.

    And using excessive punctuation.

    D:

    HEY, YAHOO.

    TWO HYPHENS MAKE AN EM-DASH.

NOT "GEE WHIZ A WHOLE DAMN LOT OF PUNCTUATION THERE BUCK-O".

ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME, YAHOO? D<
