What happens if you get an F in college?
I'm a college Freshman at Cal State University Northridge. It's a 4 year University.
I just got my grades and I got 2 F's. 1 first semester, 1 second semester, and Instead of taking 62 units like I was supposed to, I only took 50( 7 classes rather than 8)
so what now?
remember, I have to take another class, and I got 2 F's.
ugh, this is really bad
can you help?
thanks

The F's will show up on your transcripts. However, they won't count as part of your GPA if you retake the classes and pass them. If you try to move on without retaking the classes, they will be included in your cumulative GPA and they will drag it down significantly.
The only choice you have if you wish to continue is to retake the classes and do better. Good luck.

If you need the classes to graduate, you'll have to retake them. Some colleges allow you to replace the F with a new grade. Other colleges average the F in with your GPA even if you get an A in the new class. For example, I was a psychology major and I had to take social psychology to graduate. I failed the class during my junior year, so I retook it in my senior year and passed it, and I graduated (on-time, too).
If you don't need those specific classes to graduate, there's nothing you can do about the grades, but you can take other classes in order to get out. Like say that you're a biology major and this is a music class that's just fulfilling a general education requirement. You can take any other class that will fulfill that requirement. At schools that replace your F grade with the better one if you retake it and pass, it may be a better idea to retake the class, because then the F won't be on your transcript anymore. You'll have to look in your student handbook to figure that out.

Obviously they'll go on your records, but there's always the option of re-taking those courses for better grades.
You might want to consider taking a smaller load of courses (if at all possible) and limit your work hours (if you work) to ensure that you do receive better scores (if you retake them or next time).
