How do you make Sangria the way they do in Spain?
I have tried several recipes off the Web but they all seem to have something missing and I can't think what it is. I don't want to fly to Spain just to find out the secret. Does anyone have any idea what the "secret ingredient" may be?

Most people don't realize that there is generally some form of strong spirit in the sangria as well as the lemonade and wine. Try adding some vodka or fruit liqeur to it. Hope this helps. I'm also adding a link to a site I found about making sangria. There's lots of info and links on it so it might help.

For approximately 1½ litres of Sangria
1 bottle of red wine
Lemonade
Brandy or Bacardi or Vodka
Grand Marnier or Cointreau
Lemon, orange and apple
Sugar
Ice
Preparation:
Into a punch bowl or a large jug pour 1 bottle of red wine and more or less the same amount of lemonade (in Spain they use gaseosa). The quantity of lemonade depends on your taste. Add a good amount of ice.
Wash the fruit well as you are going to being using the peel as well. Then slice up the citrus fruits, chop the apples and add to the mix.
You can stop at that if you want a light drink but if you want a zing add a shot of Brandy, Bacardi or Vodka and a shot of Grand Marnier or Cointreau. This is up to you and you may want to experiment with it to find what you like.
Spanish people often add a little sugar but again this depends on your taste, personally I think a little sugar enhances the flavour.

One sure way to have people ask about your Sangria.
A large bottle of Burgundy
1 can of Minute Maid Frozen Raspberry Lemonade
Mix and let settle, the longer the better ( I do mine in the a.m. for the p.m. )
add some sliced oranges or other fruits for appearance just prior to serving
Put some ice in the glass
Pour the Sangria over the ice ( leave some room at the top )
Add/Top off with Squirt
You are done and I guarantee that everyone at your table will ask how you made it.
Good luck!

Get yourself one of the finer red colors of Cisco or MD 20/20. Do some dumpster diving at one of the better restaurants in your neighborhood for some not too rancid fruit scraps. Mix 'em together and have at it.

Try this one, it's pretty good:

It never seems to taste the same if you are not drinking it in a hot country.
