Any Doctors Out There...Or Future Doctors?

Hey All...

Thanks for clicking onto my question. I'm a 14 year old girl who's in yr 9(8th grade) at the moment, and i've chosen my gcse options. I chose Triple science, history. sociology, spanish and bengali. And all other compulsory subjects are already chosen for us like english, maths and citizenship etc. Are my choices good?

And also...How long does it take to become a doctor in the UK? Is it hard?

Thank you all for your time! x

The only thing that is crucial about your high school curriculum is taking courses that are needed to get into a college with a good pre-med program and and excelling in those courses. Take a look at the admission requirements of schools that you might be interested in attending. Usually pre-med students seek degrees in biology, chemistry, or some life-science. Everything you need for med school is taught at the college level.

I don't know how the UK med program works. In the US, the minimum time needed is 4 years undergraduate, 4 years med school, and 3 years as an intern. Additional internships are needed to become a specialist such as a surgeon.

Hi. I'm not a doctor yet, but I plan on studying Internal Medicine when I graduate from High School. I am now a sophomore. I was told to take as many math and science classes. I was also told by my counselor to take psychology. It helps people understand others. It's important for doctors to understand their patients feelings and body language.

If you haven't talked to your school counselor yet, do so. And ask for help in choosing your courses according to your profession.
