Will it make any difference when I go to see the new Star Trek movie that I've never seen any others?
Never seen ANY other ST films, but am familiar w/ the characters from the old TV series. I love anything JJ Abrams does and would like to see this, but don't want to be asking my husband questions through the whole movie if it requires a lot of back-story to understand.

If you've never seen any of the other movies it will make no difference to the story. The new movie is set apart from the original series, but at the same time it respects what came before. I say go for it, but during the movie there are a lot of in-jokes and subtle references to the other movies, most notably Wrath of Khan. Other than missing a few small cross-references, you're good.

If you are familiar with the original TV series then you will be fine although you really don't need to know anything about the series to enjoy the movie. You will also get the inside jokes. I loved this movie!

I haven't seen any of the other films and I really enjoyed the movie. I wasn't even familiar with the characters.

Not really. But they did refer to a Star Trek 2 scene that became a basis for this movie. Also, this is a prequel, so, they it can be anything the filmmakers want.

No, JJ Abrams made it so you don't have to be a Trekkie to follow & enjoy the movie.
It's a great movie - I've seen it twice!

It's fine if you haven't seen any of the other movies.
there are a couple inside jokes that you may not get, but i saw it and it was the only star trek i've ever seen, and i understood it just fine.
it's probably better if you've seen the others, but not necessary.
