Is calling Junior the "face" of Nascar not an insult to the "faces" of other sports?

It's sad but true that the best person isn't always the face of the sport. I would say that Jimmie Johnson is the best driver over the last few year. I don't like him but that's the fact of the matter. I think Carl Edwards would also be a great person to be the face of the sport. He is well spoken, intelligent and very attractive, and who doesn't like to see the flip. But the best person for the job doesn't always get it. I guess we're stuck with Jr. I guess he is better than some. But I can think of at least 18 guys better than him this year...lol

The face of a sport is not a person who performs the best, it's the person who is synonymous with the sport. Dale Earnhardt Jr, love him or hate him, is the face of NASCAR because he is the most recognizable person in the sport.

Peyton is not the winningest player in the NFL. He might not even be the best QB, see Tom Brady, but he is more associated with the sport. You could argue that LeBron James has surpassed Kobe as the face of basketball, despite the face that he's never won a championship.

So, again, being called the face of something has nothing to do with being a champion. People also seem to forget that Dale Jr's won 18 times in his career, and has won NASCAR's biggest race. If you want to hate him, that's fine. But don't say he has no talent, since some talented drivers never win more than a handful of times.

the fact is, junior IS the face of NASCAR no matter how much hater nation wishes it weren't so. when a non NASCAR fan thinks of our sport, the image that comes to their minds is the face of dale earnhardt jr., everyone knows who he is and what he does regardless if they know anything else about NASCAR. just like when people who are totally clueless about golf think of that sport, the image that comesto their mind is the face of tiger woods. dale earnhardt jr. is the most popular driver in the history of NASCAR, THAT'S what makes him the face of the sport. i suggest you haters just dry your eyes and get over it.
