Is it normal to give a cat convenia for upper respiratory problem?

My cat went to the vet this morning. There is lots of discharge coming from her nostrils.

the vet gave her a convenia injection. I read that convenia is an antiobiotic only used for "skin infections, wounds and abscesses".

Has anybody else had a vet prescribe convenia for an upper respiratory problem? Was it effective?

Thanks.

Update:

What does your kitten have to do with Convenia and my cat's respiratory problem, moron? I can't stand assholes like you that contaminate this forum with their bullshit.

Seriously, I am very worried about my cat and I want input from people who have a knowledge of cat pharmaceuticals or at least experience using them with their pet.

My vet gave my cat a convenia injection yesterday for her upper respiratory infection. So, yes, they are using it for upper respiratory infections, although it was the first time I have heard about this drug. I have seen no change in my cat so far, but it's been only 24 hours. In fact she's sleeping more today than the past couple of days. I understand your worry. I am worried too. I did some research today on the web and have come across some discussion that it is also used for upper respiratory infections, but I've mostly read where it is used for skin problems. Good luck!

I use it a lot for urinary tract infections and cat bite abscesses or skin infections. I haven't used it for respiratory disease, but common respiratory isolates should respond to it. It's a cephalosporin (think Cephalexin and that group).

The cephalosporin group have the same mechanism of action (cell wall penetration) as penicillin so usually they respond to the same bacteria.

Unless you have a culture and sensitivity we won't know for 100% sure what will work best, but I'd give the Convenia a few days to work. Plus its so nice not to have to pill your cat!

I have 2 cats, one with a protracted higher respiration contamination. His virus is managed through giving him l-lysine, a complement any drugstore or grocery store consists of. Your vet can provide you the correct dosage. He does not exhibit any signs of the virus except he misses 3 or 4 days valued at of meds, which has simplest occurred as soon as. It's handy to manage, besides. The capsule will also be beaten up in meals, you do not must manually capsule the cat. I used to be involved approximately an endemic transmission after we followed a healthful kitten. We gave her an immunization shot, however my vet stated the shot is not constantly amazing. She's in no way proven signs, and it is been 4 years. I believe her immunization plus preserving unwell kitty from having outbreaks each support the difficulty. Ultimately, Both kitties are the pleasant of peers, and percentage meals and cuddle with every different. Even if healthful kitty will get the virus a few day, it is so handy to control. No disorders in any respect, and I'm so completely satisfied I did not allow the virus give up me from bringing within the healthful kitten!

I am so scared now. I took my cat to the vet this morning as well for the same reason. Two days ago i didn t hear her coughing, but you can hear a little bit for problem breathing so they put that convenia injection and afterwards she star coughing more and she is underneath my bed when i left. Right now I am at work but i very worry for all the bad things I heard about convenia. I love my cat as my only child and i am freaking out right now. I cannot wait to go home and check on her. I pray to God to be ok.

I had a similar experience two days ago, 2/13/17 with my cat. the vet gave him a convenia injection for sneezing and a suspected URI. Two days later, my cat isn't any better, he is lethargic and I am very concerned about any side effects the drug may pose. When the vet gave the shot, I didn't ask a lot of questions and was told it was a great alternative to having to give the cat pills. Now I'm finding that if the cat has a reverse reaction to the drug, there is no way to remove it from his body. I also read that convenia is an antiobiotic only for "skin infections, wounds and abscesses" but it seems that vets are using it for everything including a URI. I am worried that my cat is going to die. He's only 10 and is an indoor cat.

Well, I just got a kitten 9 days ago. Shd doesn't have upper respiratory problems. Don't worry, your vet knows what he's doing.
