Most of the previous posts are nonsense. Do not pay them any attention. In that case just tell the officer that there is a gun in the glove box. he will either ask you to step out and he will retrieve it and make sure it is registered and not stolen, or he will simply walk to the passenger side and retrieve the gun while u sit in the car. officers know that citizens carry guns so don't panic freak out or reach in that direction. and always keep your hands where they can be seen such as on the steering wheel.

After the citation is given i will normally place the gun in the back seat and the magazine/bullets in the front seat just for my safety

Very calmly, with your hands stationary on the wheel while the cop is watching you state that you have a legally purchased and licensed firearm in the glove box with your information. Listen to him then when he tells you what you should do, he will likely want you to get out of the car while he gets your information from the glove box.

when you are pulled over do the following:

    1. pull far off the road

    2. turn off the ignition (radio too)

    3. roll down your window

    4. place the keys on top of your car over the driver's side

    5. Place your hands palms up out the window

    6. Tell him "for officer safety purposes I am obliged to inform you that there is a licensed handgun in my glove box."

Also, keep your registration in a location different from where you keep your gun!

Source(s): If you did what well duh is telling you, I would pull you out the window right after I heard "i have a gun..."

Keep your hands on the wheel or out of the window at all times. Tell them you'll be happy to give them the paperwork but there is something they need to be aware of first. Tell them you have a gun. Tell them where it is. Tell them whether or not it is loaded, and whether or not it is chambered. Tell them you have a CCW, and then ask them if they would like to secure it for you.

They should ask you to step out of the car and move a safe distance away while they secure the weapon, then they'll go on about their business and when all is done, they'll hand you the gun back.

Just tell them you have a gun in the glove box and they will ask you to step out of the car while they retrieve it. Very simple.

Tell the officer you have a permit and a gun, and where the gun is located.

The first thing I aways say is that I have a permit and the gun's location.

I have never had a problem.

Well duh has it right. Stay in the vehicle and follow the officers instruction. When he asks, let him know about the firearm, and don't make any moves for it. Let him tell you what to do. I carry concealed all the time, and the few times ive had encounters with law enforcement, that is the first thing i tell them.

Or you could just drive properly and not get pulled over (kidding) Seriously though, Kudos to the six year deputy veteran.
