Cold and earache - please help?

I have had earache for nearly 5 weeks now and got a cold last Wednesday, have snotty, blocked nose, headache and a chesty cough. i went to the doctors last week who said that my sinuses were blocked and if I put my head over a boiled kettle and in hailed the steam this would make my ears better. This hasn't worked and I feel even worse this week with the cold as well. Can't take time off work as have just started a new job.

Can anyone help please as I don't know what to do for the best but just feel so run down.

have had colds and earaches for what seems like most of this year

thank you for any help

I am exactly the same, try and give your ears a clean with some warm water, use stuff like Vick's and carvol to clear your sinuses. Take paracetamol or codeine (if you have any)

Codeine is a prescribed medication but works wonders for coughs and colds.

Don't put your head over a kettle, pour the boiling water into a big bowl and then put your head near it and a towel covering your head.

    Some ear drops might help.

For the earache: okay, first you need to go get a clean cloth and damp it with boiling hot water. Then carry it with you, through your bedroom and lay down carefully on your bed with the cloth wrapped around your ears. Let it set. Hopefully this helps.

For the cold: Keep blowing your nose and breathe in steam. Purchase cough medicine and have a spoonful everyday. Stay in warm clothes, for example: In the morning, wear a simple dressing gown with comfortable slippers and some PJ's underneath.

I really hope this helps you recover!

Please try to put a few pieces of ginger or lemon in some coke (a cup) to bring it to boil and drink it while it is hot. Hope this will help.

Please try to use both your middle fingers to massage the back of your ears. Especially on the lowest part of your ear. Hope this help.
