Should Africans be white instead of black?

Since white reflects light (so should make you cooler) and black absorbs light (so should make you warmer). So shouldn't that mean that Africans should be white and Northern Europeans black?

No because then we would not absorb enough vitamin D. Dark skins absorb it less efficiently and given the much lower levels of sunshine "up north" if we also had black skin we would all suffer from a lack of vitamin D which is the case with many people with dark skin who live in the cooler parts of the planet and especially asian women who wear burkhas and therefore never expose their skin to the sun. Plus the dark coliour offers some protection against the suns rays and as you know white people get burnt much more easily.

Why does it matter? I mean honestly African-American sounds better to me. Is there really anyone that is actually black? And also black can refer to any dark skin person, someone could actually be Domincan and be referred to as "black". Just like whites are called Caucasians. I mean really it should be European-American because if you look on a map there is a mountains called the Caucasus Mountains and Im pretty sure that's where the term comes from, which I doubt all white people today really come from there. Like Armenia is in that area so really Armenians fit the term Caucasian. And well just like the whole Latino/Hispanic, Indian/Native-American. I mean there is so much confusion really and whether it offends or doesn't. The whole concept of race is pretty stupid. Aren't we all part of the HUMAN RACE? Most of us are really shades of Brown from super light to super dark. Some people(no offense but usually whites) are more of a pinkish color. But nobody is really "white" or "black". Just saying.

I think with skin it's kind of different, if you think about it, pale people burn a lot faster than darker people, so if you went by this in the evolutionary way, perhaps everyone started off the same colour, but those in warmer countries got so tanned, that after a few thousand years their skin went darker and darker. And those that were in cooler countries had less and less sun, so they got paler in order to best absorb the vitamin D.

You just said white reflects light.. therefore it would not be dark from the sun. Therefore, they are white. Cool and Warm has nothing to do with it. Black absorb sunlight therefore it is ingested into their melanin giving them a darker color. Right idea, wrong concept.

No. The skin is dark of people living in tropical countries because of the buildup of melanin. It allows them to feel the heat and take cover. If they were white they would be cooked. Every year a few white people die in hot places like Arizona, Florida and California due to lying out in the sun getting a tan.

I see what you're saying and sort of understand your logic, but the darker the skin tone the higher the presence of melanin- nature's sunscreen. This is why people who live in the sunniest climates have darker skin, whilst those who live in cooler climates- northern Europe, Canada etc- have paler skin

Um. No? It has to do with genetics. Africans have a larger amounts of melanin in their skin. Melanin absorbs sunlight and effects the pigment hue of skin.

The color spectrum's laws don't apply to melanin, actually. Africans developed darker skin (more melanin) as a sort of natural sunblock. White people have little to no melanin, which is why we are easily sunburned.

Melanin protects skin from ionising UV radiation in sunlight (sunburn). The pigment also just happens to be black.
