Who believes that conscription is the best thing for the United States?
I believe that it is a well-sought solution to this problem concerning the issues of the bad apples in our society.
To be used as a social cleansing, or purification effort in eliminating those thugs that never learned manners while they humped their mothers; pertaining to those that have poor dressing attire, hats backwards/combs in hair, disregard to authority, bad ethics, etc.
Perhaps mandatory military service in the Armed Forces may do the trick. Every male that graduates High School conscripts by law. What do you all think?
Move to Russia...why? Even though they Feds...but they may still be Reds!
Well, there goes that idea...
All good answers...I am not directly on side with my question...I'm wanting to see different point of views. I'm neither a Lib or Con., Dem. or Rep.
And I'm still not going to Russia...
Great people, undesirable climate; I've been to Vladivostok...wasn't much of my most favorable TAD I've been given before.

Absolutely NOT! Our military not a repository for the rejects of our society it's a professional fighting force. Meant to defend and protect your freedoms.
Conscripts are almost always a bad idea and only to be used when no other viable options exist. Primary reason being that people that don't want to be there (conscripts) don't do a good job. You should read some stories about Vietnam where the commanding officer would give the draftees orders in the field and they would flat out say 'no'. Second, conscripts are usually poorly trained (in a time of war) since most of the time there simply isn't time to train them properly. Third, conscripts tend to be more cowardly. During operation desert storm (the first Iraq war) towards the end of the incursion there were cases of iraqi conscripts literally surrendering to JOURNALISTS! Yes I said journalists!
Trust me you want a professional well trained VOLUNTEER fighting force. That was one of Alexander the Great's best secrets and why he was able to defeat the Persians.
As far as problem boys. Many of those guys do volunteer and our military does a good job out of making men out of them. But for those people that want to continue to be loosers then we need other programs like paramilitary community service programs to straighten them out.
I hope this answers your question

i don't agree with you that conscription is the way to go with the current situation. if you are speaking in terms our domestic society, or the wars we are involved in.
however concerning the wars, i do believe we either need to mobilize our country completely like we did in WWII and adapt those principles to the middle east, or get out of there completely and reinstate the isolation act where we only trade with other countries. unfortunately i think those times are past and neither one of them.
i do agree with you that something similar to the conscription act, but in the means that the life military personal lead should be applied to the institutions of the youth, while keeping the guidelines, laws and principles of a free democratic republic. i do not think that everyone should be drafted in the military, because not everyone wants/is made to fight. but i do think we have lost things especially in the last 25 years because of this constant battle between the right and the left, and inter agencies and organizations fighting over turf, and something of a society taught how to operate, work, and think wisely and independantly together would end this conflict that makes the citizens of this country so weak to every influence by the media and politicians. we would be a country for the people, and by the people again. we would be a country of principles, wisdom, and strength, instead of a country full of idiots, lunatics and assholes. plus obiesity would not be a such a "problem", common sense and chivalry might return if we were raised in a militay based society, if we could balance military might and peace, this kind of society would work exceptionaly with the constitution of our country. unfortunitley there are too many rosie o'donnels and rush limbaughs, so this society will never happen.
i do think you are on the verge of a good idea though

This is a terrible idea. You are suggesting forcing people who wear their hats backwards, or don't like cops, to join the military? Stupid. The quality of our army would plummet.
Every male out of high school would be a lot more people than your "bad apple" scenario. That is "punishing" the good with the bad.
"Social Cleansing" and "Purification" have been tried before. Between 1939-1945.

How about no and you move to Russia.
Besides, conscripts never fight well because they were forced. Ask the Iraqi's, look at Russias current crappy military and the list goes on. The Persians lost to the Alexander because the Persians had a huge conscript military and Alexander had a volunteer army that was well trained.

I can understand where you are coming from. I am tired of seeing stupid, rude, fake, ignorant gangster wanna be punks too. But I don't think they will ever change even if they were in the military. I have in fact seen those pathetic punks serving in the military and still act like they are back in the block. These kids don't deserve to be in the military. In a battle I would hate to have to rely on some immature gangster wanna be punk.

Would you want these people to be policemen in your community? Then why would you want to give them bigger and better weapons to defend your country? Would you want to serve along side them? You also seem to insinuate that being in the armed forces equates to some sort of ensured death sentence. Your chance of being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan is less than 1%.
I would much rather roll into their neighborhoods and see how tough they think they are with the cannon of a tank staring them down.

Conscription may be nessisary for the US, but not now....Were not in a major war. Iraq and Afghanastany war has fewer deaths than most other wars put togather.
