Holton French Horn H188 authenticity?

I just bought a "new" H188. It was a display model, and it seems really nice and authentic. But I bought it "open box" and was not able to verify that it was authentic. The lead pipe is marked Holton by LeBlanc, then the symbol, USA H188, but there are no other markings other than the serial number: 689486. It is definitely new and un-played. It also has a little round Holton symbol on the support bar that attaches the lead pipe to the horn.

Since it was a display model, there was no other paper work, and it did not have the original case (came with a very nice case though.)

Does anyone else have a Holton 188 that's similar? Or know a way I can verify authenticity?

    Hi,

There are some real junk instruments out there from China that have the same basic design as a Holton but I have never heard of anyone making counterfeit horns! If someone did decide to make counterfeits they would also include all the markings a "real" Holton would have so you can't go by that. I think you know enough to tell if this is a real Holton or not, just play it. The horns from China have really bad valves and lots of leaks, the Holton will play well. I don't think I would worry about Counterfeits, the horn is real. If you were really, really worried call up LeBlanc and ask them where horn 689486 went... it should have shipped to the dealer you bought it from. (ITS REAL)
