This is such a beautiful tribute to your daughter's loving companion. She is lucky, and blessed, to have such a compassionate father. Your poem is wonderful and the reader can tell it comes from the heart. God bless.

It conveys the close relationship of Jodi and Harley, but watch your tenses:

My Harley, Sweet Harley

Throughout all these years,

you've stayed(you stayed) by my side,

through my joys and my tears,

which I can't(couldn't) hide.

And when I'm(I was) down and feeling blue,

I only have(had) to look over at you.

With Just one glance from your sweet eyes,

it makes(made) me think and realize

that loving you with all my heart

is how I want(wanted) all of my days to start.

Our early walks, along the misty beach,

with you at my side, just at arms reach.

My protector, my love, I can(could) count on you

to protect me from harm, as I protect(protected)you.

Companions, we(omit) are(omit) and(omit) were from the(very) start,

the moment I saw you, and you stole my heart.

My Harley, Sweet Harley, in passing(grieving) I say,

you will be remembered by(omit) me(omit)

till my dying day.

Okay.. if it had been a person who croaked

I'd give it a C-. Mainly because everybody writes

stuff like this when people croak.

But, since it's about a dog, and a Lab...

I shall rate it A+ *** laude. The added

'honoriam' is because Harley is a cool name.

Lucky dog to have been so well loved.

Lucky daughter whose father loves her.

Lucky dad who's man enough to let his tender side show.

I love it. Your daughter should like this. Only a real man would do something like this and not be ashamed of it. Too bad my father wasn't like that towards me.
