Creationists, can you explain something for me?
Can you explain goosebumps?
Evolution provides a concise and logical explanation, but I was curious as to your take on the subject.
What, exactly, is the purpose of goosebumps in our design?
So much venom from the creationist camp over a simple question.
Galaxie girl: I know quite a bit about creationists, thank you. My question did not, either explicitly or implicitly, solely address YEC. Please do not make assumptions.
fmko: As Galaxie notes, there are several types of creationism and they do not agree on the details. Creationism that contains a belief that humans were created "as is" or in some unique way must deal with questions such as this one. Ignoring the question and instead attempting an attack on evolution (and by extension myself) is poor form.
ffs, people this wasn't a difficult question. I wasn't implying that creationists were stupid or that they couldn't explain. Just answer the question. Thanks to those of you who have actually answered, although they all seem to be of the "evolution" variety.

I am not a creationist, but wanted to answer the bit about goosebumps!!
The medical term cutis anserina describes the bumps on a person's skin at the base of body hairs which may involuntarily develop when a person is cold or experiences strong emotions such as fear or awe. The reflex of producing goose bumps is known as horripilation, piloerection, or the pilomotor reflex. It occurs not only in humans but also in many other mammals; a prominent example are porcupines which raise their quills when threatened, or sea otters when they encounter sharks or other predators.
Goose bumps are created when tiny muscles at the base of each hair, known as arrectores pilorum, contract and pull the hair erect. The reflex is started by the sympathetic nervous system, which is in general responsible for many fight-or-flight responses.
As a response to cold: in animals covered with fur or hair, the erect hairs trap air to create a layer of insulation. Goose bumps can also be a response to anger or fear: the erect hairs make the animal appear larger, in order to intimidate enemies. This can be observed in the intimidation displays of chimpanzees, in stressed mice and rats, and in frightened cats. In humans, it can even extend to piloerection as a reaction to hearing nails scratch on a chalkboard, listening to awe-inspiring music, feeling or remembering strong and positive emotions (e.g., after winning a sports event) or to an intellectual or spiritual epiphany.
Piloerection as a response to cold or emotion is vestigial in humans; as humans retain only very little body hair, the reflex (in humans) now provides no known benefit - something that creationists won't like (so expecting the old thumbs down!!)

That's why we have goosebumps:
Most times, the tactic is a breach of our body to alleviate the sensation of cold. The brain sends a message to the hair becomes rough and the whole forms a sort of cushion of hot air, which protects against low temperatures.
The mechanism is not much sense today as did our ancestors, who had hair in abundance. "In modern man, the increase of temperature with the jar of hair is negligible," says Professor Jose Roberto da Silva, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, USP. Today, train more results.
The hair also regret we feel when threatened. The tactic is not very effective in humans, but other animals have much success with the thrill. Dogs like the husky breed, for example, have many layers of hair and look more to the tousle of hair.
But that takes care and shiver when you get a kiss on the ear? According to José Roberto, it is because our body responds the same way as when we are scared. "The interconnected system of the body causes the body to react one way to different stimuli."

Goose bumps, also called goose flesh, goose pimples, chill bumps, or the medical term cutis anserina, are the bumps on a person's skin at the base of body hairs which may involuntarily develop when a person is cold or experiences strong emotions such as fear or awe.
The reflex of producing goose bumps is known as horripilation, piloerection, or the pilomotor reflex. It occurs not only in humans but also in many other mammals; a prominent example are porcupines which raise their quills when threatened, or sea otters when they encounter sharks or other predators.
So, what does religion have to do with it?

There is no known benefit of goose bumps dude..
I am for your argument against creationists** sorry I put the wrong word, but we need a stronger argument.
I mean in humans, I realize it signals a heightening of perception and such, but at the same time, it usually was to show a reaction to another human or animal. Like a porcupine ... it would raise its quills in a similar gesture.

so i propose a song to end all hard feelings against each other

Evolution makes complete sense as an explanation for goosebumps. And the appendix. And other things like that.
Not all "creationists" are Young Earth fundamentalist Christian creationists, you know.

It usually precedes a fever dear.
It usally accompanies a shivering attack, chattering teeth, pale skin, and a cold feeling, and it is usually caused by an infection.
Or, it's it's an reaction to periods of being cold.

LOL. The theory of evolution does not provide a "logical" explanation for anything and evolutionists are the most wordy writers there are and so whatever nonsense they come up with is hardly "concise".
