For Those Opposed To A "Fairness Doctrine"... Does This Bother You Too?

Right up front, I'll say that I find BOTH very disturbing because I'm against "filtering" free speech. Also, neither confronts the role of the FCC in allowing media outlets to be 'gobbled up' by a small number of corporate conglomerates... the ultimate "filter". What do you think? Please feel free to provide links that back your opinion :)

(Those who know me know I love links!! :)

Straight story....

Yesterday, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) launched the Media Fairness Caucus, made up of about a dozen House Republicans, aiming “to fight liberal media bias.” No Democrats have signed on yest, but Rep. Smith says he welcomes all to join the caucus.

"Left Spin":

Smith must be concerned about a media system that hosts Liz Cheney a dozen times in ten days, or invites twice as many Republicans on as Democrats to discuss the stimulus package, or consistently favors conservative commentators and politicians on the Sunday political talk shows. Not to mention an entire cable network that blatantly cheer-leads for the far right."

"Right Spin":

“Both the bias in favor of Obama and the bias against bringing up anything negative about him clearly had an impact on the outcome,” Smith says. “After the election, several reporters came out and wrote that they are embarrassed with their profession because the media were in the tank for Obama.”

And your opinion?

Update:

=> Agent Smith. Actually it is a very fair question & you're welcome for the two points.

Update 2:

=> Agent Smith... LOL... thanks! <polite edit>

:)

Update 3:

=> Sarah... LOL... I'm guessing that suggestion to "grow cojones" was for the Republicans in general and not for me specifically? ;)

Update 4:

=> Sarah... Whew! I tried to keep the question fair... besides, if I had to grow them at my age, I know I'd forget to tuck them in my jeans. ;)

Yes it does. I was upset when the rules on station ownership were loosened to allow the conglomerates to gobble them up. This was something Clinton let go to get other legislation passed.

Wow, I hope the Mirror doesn't Scare the psis out of them. So the Minority party is trying to again muck up the issues with a Non-Issue like back in 1993 with the whole white water Bushit. Well, let'ws call this exactly what it is, a Bushit Witch Hunt! Because Rupert Murdock Ownes How much of the Media? And he's Their Man with Fox News! Thinking people unite and stand up to Bushit!

You'll find Karl Rove behind this Bushit!

I think they should say whatever they want, however they want and we, as listeners should learn to discern truth from opinions on any media.

The thing that irritates me is I have so little choice; I can listen to the local liberal-biased news shows to get my weather and local events; or I can listen to Fox News, the right-wing biased news program for national events. The other option is liberal-based every one else.

It would be nice to have another choice, but I don't want the government butting in to try to "fix" anything. Theirs is the ultimate bias.

My opinion is that a 'fairness caucus' isn't going to do s**t! What the Republicans in Congress need to do is stop being scared of the Democrats or media and start calling it like they see it. They need to grow some balls and call out their fellow congressmen on the issues and stop being brow-beat by Charles Schumer and Robert Gibbs when they say (paraphrased) 'watch what you say when you criticize Sotomayor'

WTF? Forget the caucus; grow some cojones and tell us what you really think!

EDIT: Yes, it was for Republicans (Governors and Congressmen) in general, not you specifically.

    EDIT: LOL! Good one!

This is what I think just right away > When ever A Republican coins a phrase like the Patriot Act for Example . We know that it will be a very UN Patriot Act in reality.

So we certainly can not count on any fairness when it comes to a "Fairness Doctrine".

It even bothers me, a Muslim. i do no longer think of that conservative Christians are against multiculturalism. Edit: "The Taliban are following organic Islam..." in spite of makes you think of so? The Muslim international (aside from the fundies) hates Taliban. And no, they seem to be a ways perverted from the classes of Islam.

Whoever controls the Media, controls the country. Look at other countries, China for one. They control the Media and the Internet too.

Your question is not fair. Are you trying to be fair and unbalanced?

(polite sarcasm - just joking: it's well put together but after 5PM my two conservative brain cells start to weaken).

Will Obama want us to talk about his gifting the H1 Hummer to the Chinese Army and the German Opel to the Russians?

    I should think not.

Free speech in the US has reached it's Liberal Shelf life.

I think that as long as we have the constitution, it will take a miracle for any of these ideas to pass.
