In my classroom it is doughnut. It seems, according to the reason I give them, for the change to donut is that Mr. Dunkin' wanted to save money on the signs and he changed the spelling to save lots of money.

According to Webster's and the Oxford dictionaries, the words are accepted in both dictionaries in both forms of spelling. Both are correct, although doughnut has been the accepted form of spelling longer than Donut.
