Nail almost completely detached. What can you do to treat it?

Okay, my friend had an accident wherein he bumped his toenail into a step of a staircase then his toenail got pulled & ALMOST got completely detached. Only a part is left attached.

We treated it with povidone iodine already and any skin that was exposed before is treated already.

It's been 2 weeks and the toenail is starting to detach completely. What can he do to make sure that the nail grows back properly? As in the size is normal and not deformed, the nail grows healthy, etc.

PS. The nailbed isn't damaged, as far as I can remember. The only trauma it prolly got was from the accidental pulling of the nail. But there weren't any bumps of some sort XD

Thanks :)

It's okay if it falls off if the nail bed is not damaged it should grow back properly. It may not grow identical to your other nail but still fine. Just keep treating it with hydrogen peroxide and neosporin and only bandage it when necessary. This same thing happened to my boyfriend a few months ago and I treated him this way and his nail is fine!

No need to see a doctor, if you know for a fact that it is a nail fungus. If you recently dropped something heavy on your toe nail, or had somehow caught it against something and had it pulled up, that can be a contribute. In that case, the area where it is seperated should resemble a bruise, maybe even completely black. If it is a fungus, it should be in the color ranges of white, yellow, brown, or green; in all shades. If that's the case, go into almost any nail salon, and buy a product called Dr. G's. Don't settle for anything else. Use that product as directed on the label. Most likely, the toe nail will eventually fall off. Many times a new nail will grow back. In the case that your nail bed was damaged, it will not grow back correctly. No matter what though, do not squeeze any type of glue into that area in hopes of saving it. Glue can trap in air bubbles, which if contained even a hint of moisture, will develope into a fungus. Cutting and filing it down as low as possible will be good, since it will lower the chance of it getting caught on something. Either way, don't worry too much about it. It's not that uncommon... good luck!
