Old Earth Evolutionists (OEEs) - if the world is so old, then how come it's only the year 2009?

If the world were billions of years old, then we would at least be on year 2,000,000,009. But it's only 2009, because time started when Jesus was born.

Update:

nirvanagirl: Good idea. The top turtle knows all. He never answers me, though.

Yes indeed, we know the Young Earth Creationists are lying when they say the world is 6000 or so years old, because the evidence is that the world is only 2009 years old.

I am an Even Younger Earth Creationist.

The fact it's the year 2009 is proof.

Time didn't "start" when Jesus was born.

That is where time divides between the old and the new.

What amuses the dickens out of me is how the pc gang has changed the traditional B.C. or Before Christ and A.D. or "anno Domini" or in English, Year of The Lord" to the new modern "B.C.E" and "C.E." for "Before Common Era" and "Common Era".

Of course, the dividing mark is still the advent of Christ, and most people still use the old B.C. and A.D. ...but what is truly hilarious is that even among those who do use the new abbrvialtions, a great many of them simply think the letters mean "Before Christ's Era" and "Christ's Era". Not all of these are even Christians.

I admit, I was confused when I first ran across these new designations, but no worries.

The world still honors the King of Kings...whether it intended to or not.

    =)

Calendar are invented by man, and have NO RELATIONSHIP to the age of the earth.

Our current calendar is based on the birth of Jesus, which was 2009 years ago.

BUT -- due to the many changes made in the calendar over the years, even that date is wrong. Based on best estimates, according to the CURRENT calendar, Jesus was bvorn on 4 or 5 BC.

Just a good example of how wrong man can be . . . .

Sorry to say, but even your bible verifies that there was a lot of time that passed before Jesus was born. This question doesn't even merit an answer, but I'm in a bad mood today and feel like it.

The real answer is that the current calendar was developed by today's society and is used as a frame of reference for today's society. If you ask the ancient Eyptians what year they were in, I'm sure they would not reply "1300 BC" or whatnot. 2009 is only a marking point for us to be able to benchmark our years since an event that was significant only to our culture.

Easy, we've all killed earth's ears with our whining and complaining so it no longer needs a hearing aid. Actually, its ears fell off and are now what we call modern day Mars and Mercury. Clearly this is a sarcastic question that many don't seem to get.

  • Well technically it might be later than 2009 historians think it might be closer to the 3000s than 2009 bc of the lack of calendars and things all those years ago.not to mention we lost a lot in the dark ages. But seriously...waterboard that turtle he'll talk then.

Even for a fundamentalist, your stupidity is astounding.

Time is only measured by men in many different ways, Do you believe in the Exodus, it occurred during a time period measured by the name of the Pharaoh and in our time marks it was BC.

The Earth is approximately 4.5 Billion years old and humans stood up 60K years ago, it may have been ages before time became important.

Easy. Because we needed a calender system to document events and so forth, and seeing as the Christian faith was wide spread at the time, the birth of Jesus was a popular one. I mean it didn't happen (or did was a bit overhyped) but there we go.

But what do you think? I mean by your theory time only started when Jesus was born. So did Bethlehem, and Isreal just pop out of no where huh? Your argument makes no sense at all. :P

That's just the time scale we use as a society that largely believed in Christianity as it started and evolved. There are actually a few other measurements of the years that are obviously much larger - but I can't remember what they're called. Nobody really uses them anyways.

My fellow Christian, I understand where your coming frombut this is not the best way to address evolutionists. It is 2009 A.D., and evoutionists believe in billions of years B.C. How others have dictated a calendar to be read is not going to have any bearing on what they believe personally. If you want to truly address evolution and the problems inherent in that theory then I suggest you check out this fun website by Kent Hovind who is a scientist and a God fearing Christian.
