Book Recommendations...Really Good Book Recommendations!?

Hi, I love reading books and I'm been slacking off a bit because I have so much to do. So, I really would like you guys to help me expand my horizon by recommending some really good books. But before you guys do that, let me introduce myself as a reader. Not to offend anyone, I personally hate books like the Twight Saga. The best vampire book I've read is the classic Dracula by Bram Stoker. I hate Charles Dicken's books. Some of the books I love/enjoy include the following: Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, The Count of Monte Cristo, Water for Elephants, The Time Traveler's Wife, The Harry Potter Series, The Red Tent, An American Tragedy, etc. As you might already see, I like to read books that are serious, adventurous, somewhat realistic, historical, classical, and the like. Please don't recommend me books that are currently extremely popular among teenagers even though I am a member of that age group! Thanks!!

SCIENCE FICTION Everyone ignores sci-fi but the truth is that some books are nearly half philosophy. Read Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein, Prey by Michael Crichton, and 2001: A Space Odyssey or Rendevous With Rama by Arthur C. Clarke.

Plus, I agree that Agatha Christie is a must-read. After Shakespeare and the Bible, she has sold the most number of books worldwide ever. Her best are And Then There Were None, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Murder on the Orient Express

Wow, you have almost the exact same tastes in books as I do! Craziness. I hated Twilight, too. Let's see, recommendations...

If you're into fantasy, try the Bartimaeus Trilogy (it looks kind of childish but it's really not- and it is hilarious)

For creepy romance, I'm pretty sure you'd like Rebecca by Daphne du Marier...she's really good.

Personally, I love Agatha Christie murder mysteries. Even if you're not into crime, you should try them. They're not the gory, bloody murder mysteries you'd think of, they're psychological. And the Poirots are hilarious.

Sorry, I've drawn a blank, but if you liked Jane Austen and Alexander Dumas why don't you try reading their other works? Even if they don't really compare to favorites like Count of Monte Cristo and Pride & Prejudice, they're still worth reading.

Source(s): Good luck and happy reading! =)

I'm a huge fan of Stephen King. His books THRILL me! They are so twisted and compelling.

Other Jane Austen books including Emma and Sense and Sensibility are pretty good too, as well as George Orwell's 1984.

If you like Dracula, you'll probably like Frankenstein as well. but as I said before, Stephen King is a great author.

I'm 13 but dean koontz is amazing. My favorites are watchers, twilight eyes, odd Thomas and the Frankenstein series. Also the anita Blake series by laurell k Hamilton but it's kind of inappropriate, there's some sex in it. The mercy Thompson series and cry wolf by patricia Briggs.

Also farenheit 451 by ray Bradbury. It's amazing!

I would recommend The Mortal Instruments- City of Bones, City of Ashes, and City of Glass.

I'm in love with these books and I would recommend them to anyone.

    Summary for City of Bones:

Their hidden world is about to be revealed....

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary.

Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....
