Post laser surgery tattoo?

I know it won't happen right away...it will probably be months...but can a tattoo be done over an area where a tattoo was lasered off? I'm going to have one on my lower abdomen lasered off next month and I'm just wondering if eventually, I can get another tattoo in the same area. If not, that's fine...I can always go to the other side. I'm getting rid of a tattoo I don't like anymore and the cost of a cover up is about the same as the laser treatments ($300). I've had the tattoo for about 16-17 years. I have 4 others that are staying...I like them just fine.

Thanks.

EMT

Update:

I don't want a cover up that is going to bigger than the existing tattoo. If I do get another one...and that's a big if...I want a smaller one. I'm not even sure I'll get another one in the same place. I just wanted to know if it was possible.

Most doctors would advise against that. The skins properties has changed & gotten weaker were you had that previous tattoo.

It hurts badly because it's a laser penetrating the skin- it directs energry toward the skin with highly concentrated colored light beams. The laser breaks up the ink particles into tiny fragments which are later cleared up by the body's scavenging cells. Many people compare the pain to a rubber band snapping against the skin, but for those who cannot take the pain, a local anesthetic (targettint only the area of the skin and making it go numb) is available to eliminate pain. In the last decade, there was a lot of new laser removal technology and the new lasers used these days leave minimal scarring. However, in my area tat removal is about $99 a session, with most tattoos taking 3 or more sessions. If he has multiple tats he wants removed, it will be a lot of money. Creams are very expensive too, but they take longer, and have a lower success rate.

if a cover up in the same amount as laser why not just do that instead of paying the laser price and then the price for a whole brand new tattoo. so therefore you will be paying more than if you just got the coverup? get what im saying?

The best answer to this will come from your tattoo artist. I'm sure they already know if new tattoos work over a lasered area.

i never got my tattoo removed by laser yet.. but i believe it could be done.. probably not with the best results.. but it should be able to be done.. for one thing thing their isn't an existing tat their anymore.. so why wouldn't a specialized tattoo not tattoo over it... unless they're not that good right..

Depends on the scar. My artist went over my scar tissue. No problem.

I would talk to your artist.
