what is a thumb wheel switch & how is it connected to PCB?

for a 1-digit thumb wheel switch, how many terminals are present?

    Fundamentally they are a a rotary BCD or hex switch on their edge. Each position sets a binary value representing the selected digit. There will be 5 terminals, each for a 1,2,4, and 8 bit values, and a common. An NO switch would close the respective bit value to common if relevant for that setting. An NC switch would open it.
