IS THERE ANY CIVILITY LEFT?

Why do we stoop to name calling and saying ignorant things?

Has politics turned in to a juvenile forum?

Be honest....does it turn you on to be so disrespectful to the other side?

What is it?

Update:

Thank you for the honest answer. I just wonder why debates can't happen without the name calling and ignorance!

Christine

Update 2:

tiger 221...Very thoughtful and honest. Keep up the good work. You are not alone

Update 3:

Plaxico....don't respond or maybe go to a different forum.

Update 4:

Ruth....well thought out answer, thank you.

Yes it has. It is just like United States politics in the real world. A bunch of hooligans calling each other names. Remember Limbaugh, Moore, McCain, Gore and every other person in our wonderful system.

I wish I knew. I remember when I was in grade school we had discussions on civil discourse. On the debate teams we debated but it was based on the old adage:"Reasonable men can disagree." But now it seems we have fallen to the old Saturday Night Live "Jane, you ignorant slut!" It's too bad because America was always a beacon of hope to the world. We always held ourselves as the standard bearer of freedom, hope and civility. I think we can become what our ideals say we aspire to be.I still believe in what Emma Lazarus wrote.Btw, wasn't Nathan Bedford Forrest the founder of what is known now as the KuKlux Klan? What a representative of "civility"!

Has there ever been any here? I wonder--I've been here awhile. But it is getting really troll-crazy these days. Too many people feeding the trolls.

For myself, I am pretty civil, although politically opinionated (and that isn't going away). It isn't about respecting those I disagree with (because around here, few deserve it) as much as self respect.

Source(s): Thanks. Not saying people don't get mad at me anyway--hey, it's politics.

On the internet, it's easier to insult people than actual respond to them because you don't have to face them.

The media stoops to name calling because fighting and conflict sells. People having civil conversations is not entertaining and a good fight gets peoples attention. Because the media is a for profit endeavor, they are willing to do whatever it takes to boost the amount of people watching.

Yes ... I enjoy thinking up a good reply to stupid questions ... and I get as much of a buzz from the 'thumbs down' as from the 'thumbs up'.

As politics becomes more partisan and Government gets bigger, more powerful, and takes more of my money expect the hardball tactics to continue.
