Question for Cowboy's fans?

With all the talk of no playoff wins in 13 years I have to ask who was more instrumental in the destruction of our team Jerry Jones or Barry Switzer? It seems to me that we had a force to reckon with in the mid 90's and Switzer couldn't capitalize. I believe strongly that had Johnson still been leading the team we would have taken 4 or 5 in a row (remember we had Favre's/GB's number back then and Johnson knew how to beat the 49ers). Then also it was under Switzer's guidance that all the legal issues came to light (similar to his days with Oklahoma) and causing the distractions. Then not to mention he and Troy had a strained relationship from their days at OU.

Jones on the other hand paid out way too much money to bring in talent to reignite the team after they had began to cool. This also led to the troubled Campo era where a large portion of the cap money was going to players not even in the league. Jones also passed on Randy Moss (who wanted to be a Cowboy more than anything) in favor of Greg Ellis who good in his own right but no Randy Moss.

Anticipating derogatory remarks from fans of the other teams let me respond in advance by telling you to go to hell.

Just curious how Cowboy's fans and fans of other teams that can behave themselves feel about it.

    Jerry Jones.

It was his ego that forced Jimmy Johnson out the door and brought Barry Switzer in. And without Johnson's iron fist; all of the "party boys" on the roster had free reign to drink, do drugs, and solicit hookers all night instead of focusing on gameplans.

When players would show up for practice the next day hungover; Switzer would shrug his shoulders and send everybody home.

I suggest all Cowboys fans read the following book-some of the stuff in here you will not believe. Let me just say the text is rated X.

I'd say that very few teams can have an era where they win that many championships and keep generating new talent and winning ways. It's no accident that San Fran sunk too. Part of the reason is that assistants of very successful teams go on to better career opportunities, and take their assistants with them. The same with the front office team. Further, there is the tendency for teams with rampid success to adopt the attitude that they'll win regardless, and so the components that get good results fade. Additionally, success breeds duplication; when a team has a winning system, other teams duplicate it. Still others seek to counter it, and build teams capable of stopping the successful team(s).

There just seems to be a cycle where a bad team (which the Cowpatties were before Johnson, at 1-15, like the Lions will be this year) improves, becomes dominant, and fades. The Chargers, 49r's, and other teams have followed similarly. It often takes many years before the team completes this cycle, and the Cowpatties are following it precisely. It might be quite a while before they are a powerhouse again.

You forgot the even more troubled Chan Gailey era.

it was a combination of bad scouting and, drafting, unrealistic year to year goals and, weak coaching(like now). I think besides His obvious coaching skills, the COWBOYS miss Jimmy Johnson the most on draft day. Had they kept Parcells, I have no doubt they would have a ring by now. the Wade Phillips buddy system, is okay for NCAA but, it doesn't translate well to 52 millionaires.

I agree with a lot of the stuff that, Dallas Cowboys Fan Forever, had to say.

it has to be jerry jones.. he couldnt get along with jimmy johnson well enough for johnson to stick around and continue to lead the team.. switzer was just an idot that won a ring with johnson's team.. johnson built that team perfectly with his demeanor and draft picks.. i think jones learned his lesson in not getting too much in the way of a great coach, which is why i think him and parcells were able to coexist.. parcells and jones didnt part on bad terms like him and johnson did..

    Jerry Jones

he should take a page form the Steelers,

hire good people, then get out of the way and let them do their job

(only 3 coaches since the '70's, and they ALL have a ring)

they've had some good players, but there is way too much bad chemistry in the locker, and on the field

there's a feeling that no one's in charge

Source(s): Steeler fan, but NOT a Cowboy hater I used to watch them practice, when they were in Thousand Oaks Ca, in the '80's, before JJ bought them

2JFool, without a doubt. He's been running the team much like Al Davis has and is in Oakland, and he's learned the hard way that filling his roster with morally-bankrupt degenerates isn't the way to win a title.

That said, I fully expect him to make a move on Vick when he's cleared to begin playing since, judging by his play, Romo apparently thinks the season ends on December 1.
