I have a next door Neighbour who is a young girl living on her own in her daddy's house who has no thought for any body only her self and her party pals when she gets in at the week ends its on with the music early hours off the morning all day long.

She has had two notices put on her and had loads off calls from the police there as much use as a Chocolate fire guard I am at my wits end as this has been going on for over a year and its been the worst year off my life I left with no help from the are hard working officials has any body came across this situation and beat it?

If you are in the UK the police have the right to seize her equipment Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Noise Act 1996 and the Common Law of Nuisance, you should look here

Personally, my approach from personal experience was to utilise my Cerwin Vega speakers with some industrial Australian techno, anything by Nassenbluten or xylocaine, should leave her traumatised or the some good chemical brothers (easier to acquire)

    Yes I have.

First of all, I am a former police officer of fourteen years. I know what I am talking about when it comes to these types of situations.

This girl is disturbing the peace. However, a police officer's "peace" cannot be disturbed. Only a citizen's peace can be disturbed. Therefore, when the police are called on a loud music complaint, unless the caller (you) signs a complaint, the only action the police can take is to knock on the door and ask the neighbor to turn the music down.

You have to be willing to sign a summons and complaint, and to go to court to get this resolved.

First rule of thumb, neighbors can usually make all the noise they want till ten o'clock at night. After that, it is disturbing the peace, regardless of the day of the week.

Before calling the police, I would gather some evidence. Record the music from inside your house so the judge can hear what it sounds like inside your house at 2:00 AM on a Saturday night. If there are cars parked up and down the block, take pictures. (Note dates and times. A camera with a date stamp helps build your case). If the party spills out into the front and back yards, take pictures. Drunks passed out on the lawn are always good.

If beer bottles and drink cups end up on your lawn after a party, take pictures. In fact, before and after pictures are good.

Talk to neighbors within the proximity of the offending residence and see if other neighbors would be willing to testify in court. A judge is always impressed when several neighbors show up in his court with a common complaint.

Next, call the police. When they arrive, insist on signing a complaint.

If they say, "Oh, why don't you just let us talk to her" say no. You want to sign a complaint. If the police refuse to take a complaint, tell them that if they don't take your signed complaint, you will go to the city attorney and demand the he take a signed complaint. Then follow through.

Take this girl to court. Present your evidence, have your neighbors be there ready to testify also.

Build a case and follow through. That is what concerned citizens do.

If the problem doesn't stop. Call the police and do it again.

If this girl starts paying fines, she may start to reconsider how loud her party's are. And if a judge sees her in court two or three times, those fines are going to start going up, and he may start to consider jail time.

You can't just call the cops and expect them to make a problem go away. That isn't how the system works. The police don't have that authority, but the courts do. Make them work for you.

    Good luck.

Maybe talk to a SUPERVISOR in the police department when the music is non-existent. If it is during the day, when they are asleep, if they sleep. :) Tell the police supervisor that you can't carry on your duties due to lack of sleep due to the noise; and that you have made numerous reports and other neighbors as well. Ask what can be done about it. Another suggestion: Maybe play some LOUD CLASSICAL music and allow them to approach you. ANd you say, "wow, is that bothering you? Ok, welll can we make a deal, that I will stop playing this so loud if you lower your music?" I know you want to go over and beat the crap out of the stereo system he has. BUT they will just get another one. SMILE Just a few suggestions. I hope it gets better for you.

The only thing you can do is keep reporting her to the council and to the police . Also keep a diary of dates and times of the music and noise . I am sure the environmental health department can help also as they can class it as noise pollution .

A friend of mine went through a similar thing and with a lot of perseverance and pushing on her part the noisy neighbour ended up having the stereo seized and a court order preventing her playing loud music again . the council also got her evicted , but it take some time . I don't know if this will be any help to you but good luck.

Yes, my nan has had the same situation and it's especially really horrible on elderley when they just want to sleep. She complained and I think one or two other neighbours complained as well which made their side of the arguement stronger.

This lad was living on his own playing music all day and night everyday. His mum had passed away and his sister lived with her auntie so this lad of about 20 was living on his own! Eventually, I don't know who they are, but people from the council had him move somewhere else. I hope this works for you too.

Some years ago we had the same a young couple who played music very loud at all hours. One weekend we went to visit my wife's parents and that Friday afternoon prior to leaving I put on the Light Infantry band and Bugles sound retreat this continued to play until we returned

late Sunday evening we had no trouble after that. The reply button is great.

If the local Council won't act you can apply to the Magistrates' Court yourself for a Noise Abatement Notice under the Pollution Act.

Contact your local authority/town-hall - they know how to deal with this problem. You have a legal right to peace of mind and a noise free environment. The law will back you up - not the fuzz, but your town hall.

If you are not sure who your councillors are, you can find out at the link below and you can contact them by e-mail and put your complaint before them. They know exactly what to do.

At the link below just enter your post code and you'll be told who your councillors are and how to contact them.

    http://www.councillorweb.org.uk/

Other group you need to contact are "The Noise Abatement Society" - this group are fierce protectors of our 'peace and quiet' and will not hesitate to take sound recordings of the noise and use a meter to get the decibel levels etc.

    http://www.noiseabatementsociety.com/tcms/home

You do not have to suffer noise.

Also, contact your local CAB (Citzens Advice Bureau) and ask their help concerning the noise you are putting up with.

    http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/

again, just enter your Post Code in the slot and it will tell you where your nearest CAB is located etc.

You should also consider contacting other folk in your neighbourhood and ask them if they are suffering from the same noise intrustion as you are. You might get up a petition to stop the noise.

    Good luck . . . .

Finally, check out the link below - neighbours from hell etc and how to deal with etc.

Why did you call the police?

Noise nuisance is dealt with and prosecuted for by the local authority (not police, they have little to no legal power in this respect) contact the relevant department, likely to be environmental health or a similarly named department.

If you call a plumber when you need an electrician you are indeed likely to find them as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
