Bill hicks quote about unity? Repeat>?

"Today young men on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one conciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream in which we are the imagination of ourselves"

I know he was a great comedian, but i'm sure he would want to take this quote seriously.

As much as this brutally curbs a lot of the standardized terms used, I'm just wondering if this godlike image of an omnipresent sight concept has any connection to hinduism or buddhism. It seems very much like it roots to the string theory even. This is very insightful, a little stupid, but really smart at the same time, so tell me your thoughts on this.

"matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration"

Pretty much describes string theory, so is reasonably scientifically accurate (well, more like a fast vibration but close enough)

"that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively"

Fits nicely with realistic monism, which is my favourite materialist metaphysics. In this view of the world it is assumed that all matter is made of immediate experience; all atoms, molecules, electrons etc feel something, and that human consciousness is built from these building blocks. (see the link below for a full introduction)

"there is no such thing as death"

Not too sure what he means here, but I think he's saying that there's no such thing as life either.

"life is only a dream in which we are the imagination of ourselves"

I guess this is quite true, the brain is a dreaming machine which imagines the world around us. Our physical body generates the conscious self, which imagines the physical body in order to control and protect it.

Having said all that, Hicks also had a taste for reincarnation and supposes that memory can somehow survive death, which is superstitious nonsense because memory is known to be caused by the physical structure of the brain.

Four out of five isn't bad though, and comedy that gets people thinking is always a good thing.

What are my ideas? Well, I'm definite I'll get thumbed down through all my atheist pothead homies, however I've under no circumstances relatively cared for reefer, so its unlawful fame way not anything to me. Now, if Prohibition had been to take final result once more, I'd be heading up the riots at the streets. As for the quote, many poisons adding arsenic and cyanide arise certainly in a large number of types. Should we begin drinking the ones, due to the fact they are a fabricated from God? NO, I'm *now not* evaluating weed to lethal poisons, however I'm simply gambling the Devil's Advocate right here to factor out the weak point of Hicks' assertion...I nonetheless love The Hicks, even though. One of The Nolte's faves, through some distance.

Yes absolutely related to Buddhism. All form is thought to be "condensed emptiness" although in the Heart Sutra it is expressed as: "Form is emptiness, emptiness is form." Buddhism and the physics Hicks refers to have much in common.

Acid (LSD I presume) only just kick open the doors of perception in much the way the insight of awakening does. Mushrooms, certain meditation, torture and near-death all can do the same thing. Meditation is the best way......

I was reading the Upanishads last night, and Bill Hicks sort of thought definitely goes along the lines of buddhism.
