I really can't think of any. If you're open to other foreign directors, try Andrei Tarkovsky. His films always felt very similar in style to Kurosawa to me.

    BQ-Rashomon

Thanks. Stalker was the main one I had in mind when I mentioned Tarkovsky, actually.

I don't think John Ford would be a bad choice. I guess you could say that they both give interesting, psychological takes on relatively simple, age-old stories. I'm far from an expert, though, in terms of knowledge of either director.

BQ: I'm somewhat ashamed to admit, but I've only seen Seven Samurai. I'll be seeing Rashomon sometime soon.

Oh, wait. I also saw Ikiru. That's right. Scratch that.

Didn't Kurosawa have about thirty movies, Jacob? That's gonna be tough.

The guy that did The Last Picture Show (I don't know his name) -- that reminded me of a Kurosawa movie, it was almost like reality type show but with serious people, not trying to be clowns.

hmmm... i have seen kurosawa ideas in lots of hollywood movie, but i dont know much about directors who make similar movies as kurosawa.

how about stanley kubrick?? they both have similar themes to movies, that is society/human nature. i cant think of anyone else.

favourtie movie by kurosawa - seven samurai

i have to admit im not a huge kurosawa fan. i might change my mind if i see more of his movies. i have only seen seven samurai and rashomon.
