The NHL Awards Show..........?
What crap! Most of the presenters couldn't speak their lines without screwing up and Chaka Khan as the ONLY "entertainment".....
Since when did this over-weight, past her prime, African-American singer become the preferred entertainer of the NHL?
What should be done to make this production easier to stomach and more entertaining for all of us watching and those involved?
BQ: Are nominees REQUIRED to attend?
Kill.....
Chaka at one point used to be thin and many found her "quite attractive", but that was when YOU were a toddler....lol. Soo a looong time ago!
Do they do ANY REHEARSALS? I mean Ed Olczyk is on TV for pete's sake! Even those guys stunk it up like it was there first time ever. Maybe a Ron Mclean or Bill Patrick or Dennis Leary should have been EMCEE.......That show was a joke. I won't be watching anymore of that anytime soon. I'd rather watch re-runs America's Next Top Model from 1965...
Great point KILL.......What does her slow music have to do with the fast-paced action of NHL HOCKEY anyway? WEAK. Bettman and cronies should be embarrassed, AGAIN!
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER!
Heck, I COULD PRODUCE better and all I am is a couch-potato. Don't get me wrong I AM IN SHAPE, but I have only TV VIEWING on my resume, NOT TV PRODUCTION etc.
CHAKA NOW....lol
http://cm1.theinsider.com/media/0/85/51/Chaka_Khan...
Maybe she should persuade Gary to "bend the rules" and allow her to play goalie....
Candy...."NOT pointing it out"? when you answer the way YOU DID.....YOU ARE POINTING IT OUT! Sine when did R&B represent HOCKEY? Take your lame opinion elsewhere.....
DaleM...lol. I watched the AVN's. That "production" has been around for a while. The NHL on the other hand has been er, "producing" this Awards show for how long now, and still can't get it right?
Thanks......Korn.

A lot of good answers here. SOMETIMES I wish the NHL would look at sites such as these to get an outsiders perspective.....

I will copy my answer from a prior similar question.
From the horrible production values to the lame 70s elevator music to the deadpan horrible inability of every single presenter to read a teleprompter without sounding like a robot.
Ok, the Ruskies have an excuse but Edzo???
The man can't tell the difference between the word Moral and Morale when it is printed in front of his face. How on earth has he been a hockey analyst on tv for almost 3 years is beyond me.
And what the hell was that webcam nonsense with Big Ben in the middle of everything? No set up, no reason for it to be thrust in the middle of the presentation.
What a horrible piece of crap show. Now we know why hockey doesn't have any fans or ratings.

I agree. It kinda made me miss MacLean. You don't know what ya got till it's gone. I was also puzzled by Chaka Kahn..nothing screams NHL like a fat black woman. The audience wasn't even into it at all, and I also wonder how everyone could be so horrible at reading from a teleprompter.
I think if any non-NHL fan was watching they'd think it was a joke. I mean, were the audience sitting on folding chairs? That's what it looked like. I guess that's why they needed Roethlisberger to come on to try to validate the sport, saying he respects the NHL and it's players...
I think the best parts were the shots of some of the players smoking hot girlfriends...other than that it was pretty bad. Oh yeah, and Tim Thomas was another positive part.
edit- Candy, I doubt anyone here's racist. People point out that there was a fat black woman singing because the NHL is known to have very few black players...How many NHL players or fans listen to R&B or soul music...

Dear lordie, Chaka Khan made my ears and eyes bleed. Wow. I guess the NHL can't find any other entertainers? Oh boy.
I didn't mind the presenters. Actually I really enjoyed them. I enjoyed Jeremy Roenick almost like "hosting" the show. I may be the only one, but I still find the man funny.....but then again I also find Sean Avery funny.....
I think the NHL should involve the older veterans more. There's nothing like seeing the guys who helped shape our great sport!
BQ: I don't believe so. I do not believe Sidney Crosby was in attendence yesterday, not sure why not though. He was a nominee for the Mark Messier Leadership. Hope he has a good excuse, because I believe all nominees should attend unless they have a valid excuse.

extra smart previous due then by no ability, right here you're: a million) it would be a great trio like the enormous 3 the 70's Habs had with Savard, Robinson, Lapointe, yet are not getting too grasping, ideally you decide on a defencive D-guy (a l. a. Craig Ludwig) in case the extra offencive minded one is like Coffey and forgets to decrease back examine. 2) portion of the clarification i did no longer bypass to modeling college while i replaced into youthful replaced into that they needed me to positioned on makeup. of direction, getting 7 stiches ideal over the appropriate eyebrow enjoying hockey did no longer help the two lol. 3) supply him time. i understand Ovie's english isn't perfect, even though it takes awhile and he's paid to entertain us in hockey - the language that brings us all at the same time. How'd the common NA do in russian exceptionally if working in a factor of their custom the place many communicate english and/or french? 4) that's approximately time << LE GROS bill >> be so honoured. wish that i'd desire to have seen it yet replaced into drugged up on vitalin after lasic eye surgical technique the day previous afternoon. digital mail me in case you realize of a link the place i will see or a minimum of hear to all this.

The moment they anounced Chaka Khan as the opening act, I thought they were kidding till she walked out. For crap sakes TSN can get BNL and Simple Plan ro do the friggin hockey theme but the NHL can't get a decent band to open? Why not grab some idie outfit outta the Montreal scene, it would of been cheaper and better.
I didn't mind JR so much but he need a straightman to be funny, alone his act is just ths side of annoying.
Liked it when Vlad annouced Ovie the winner.
I did notice a few earbud being used and I'm willing to bet it wasn't UN style translation. lol

have watched that show more often than not for the last 15 years or so and it has always been a dull presentation.
i don't get chaka khan either. bettman must have figured she's a "name". moron!
tim thomas and vlady were bright spots this year though. vlady is doing better than i imagined, great to see him not in wheelchair.
i recall maclean hosting and thought he did fine. it would be an improvement. maybe him and don cherry?

Candy - WE DO NOT CARE.
"Hockey fans are not like other fans". Yea, 95% of them are white. That is why it is fine to say Chaka Khan is a large "African-American" or "black" woman, because she is an extreme minority in the NHL world. It makes no sense.
It was terrible, the cheap jazz music they played was pathetic. The "clips" they showed were not that great, and the long speeches. Tim Thomas was pretty funny "Manny, want me to thank your wife for you?". Pavel Datsyuk was kind of funny, even though Malkin tried to steal his "English is short" line. The NHL could at least limit the length of the speeches. When Chara was speaking I went to the bathroom, came back and he was still rambling. I thought it was great that Kostintinov came out on stage, I was surprised he could walk and such. Well, it sucked so not much else to say.

My critique is that the league chooses to go to Vegas, and then has a show that could have been held at the Saskatoon Holiday Inn.
Showgirls? Nope.
Vegas icons? Nope
Sinatra, Dino, Sammy...anything that says "hey, we're in Vegas!"...can't have that.
Hell, have Bettman eat a fried Twinkie and sing show tunes...something.

The Award show... Okay words can't even explain. It was pretty bad.
But I think your being kinda rude. I mean Chaka Khan singing wasn't that bad. And why do you have to add the fact hat she's "over weight". And your saying African- American as in it's a bad think that she was African- American. Honestly why couldn't you just simply say the singing was bad. There was no need for that to be added. Not trying to point you out or anything but I just thought that was rude!
Thankyou!
Source(s): Okay... Fine. Maybe I was pointing it out. But honestly I think It should be pointed out. Lame Opinion? Really. You made a rude comment, about how she looked and you made it sound like the fact she was African- American was wrong. What you said was wrong and I'm glad I pointed it out. Look... I have nothing against you. Nor am I trying to be rude to you. You have great hockey knowledge and I respect that about you! I just wanted to say what you said was wrong! Stonewall Fleury (Killswitch)- I'm not saying he's racist in any way. I have no right to say to someone over the Net that they are Racist. All I was trying to say was the comment was rude. It has nothing to do with Music. - 1 decade ago
I agree about the entertainment. Michael buble was there! Why couldn't he have sang?!?!?!? But personally I loved the presenters. They may not have been graceful but it's ok. They aren't actors! Plus patrick kane was there! LOVE HIM!!! I've love the sport of hockey and by no meens am I a puck bunny (hate them), but that boy is hot!!!
