Why does my car make a hissing sound when I go over speed bumps?

I just heard it today. My boyfriend says it happens when the shocks or struts are working properly, but like i said, i have never heard it until today.

It is a 2005 Pontiac G6.

Do you know, is this a crucial thing i should be worried about?

If its a quick sound that follows the deflection of the tire over the speed bump, no, you shouldn't be concerned. It is a normal sound for struts to make - its a combination of the mechanical bits moving, and the sound of the fluid going through the valving of the strut, dampening the 'hit'.
