Why is the Muslim world so divided?

Seems like now days Muslims are more after each other than anyone else. Shia, Sunni, Sufi, Quranist, and etc... We proudly say that there is only ONE Quran yet every Muslim follows something different. We bash each other instead of working together in these hard time when Muslim world is under pressure to show unity against the fundamentalist. Can't we just be happy that the other person is also Muslim? why should we play "my version of Islam is better than your version of Islam"? o and ever heard of divide and destroy?

Sounds a lot like Christians & the Bible doesn't it? You'd think all the infighting would get old after a while.

Islam is going the same way as Christians did a long time ago. I have deep respect for Islam because I truly believe in parts of the quran. I love reading it. It just bothers me that it is so long and wordy sometimes making it hard to truly find the meaning. The moods and dispositions of the people reading it can find what they need to justify their actions at the time, if your angry it approves of 'justified' murder, if you are at peace it brings you more peace. I do not think this religion is going to last because the world and even a majority of peaceful Muslims are going to reject it in the future (like many Christians today) It may be a long time until the world can finally put religious doctrine and selfish beliefs aside and worship god, life, love and one another in peace.

guy continuously submits religious actuality to his very own interpretations. There are easily approximately 8 branches of Islam in the present day. Sufis, who're a paranormal branch that have been around for a while. And noticeably the Twelvers, who wait for a twelfth Imam, who's prophesied back. If Shaitan sends a faker first, to aim the followers of Islam, and that they persist with a coaching of hatred. they are going to be greater risky than Al Qiada!

Muslims base things on the Quran, but we also change it up a little because of our culture. Every culture is different. For example, an Arabian women could walk out in the public all covered up, however, a Pakistani women could walk out just wearing their traditional clothes - Salwaar Kameez.

Monotheism (single god, all else evil lies) arose from intolerance. Perhaps beliefs that are almost like hers but different threaten the monotheist because it is easy for believers to slip into a familiar looking heresy.

For contrast, Hinduism contains so many radically different perspectives, but nobody feels the need to hate those who think differently or to carbomb them. In fact, it took the two major monotheisms and their intolerance to force Hindus to even define themselves as a religion and think in a sectarian way.

It simply is the fate of all monotheism to split up and fight each other for dominance.

that's the consequence when there is no central form of administration of management. On the other hand, there are many advantages of decentralized form of management, one is every one has the chance to make islam best. Others would be difficult for an outside villain to destroy islam. There are many more reasons.

Over religion. The only way to stop religious divisions is to become atheist, even amongst the same religions. Can you name one of the great religions that doesn't involve some sort of in-fighting between the sub cults? Buddhism (although often not classed as a religion) seems to be the closest to harmonious living, despite all of them preaching love, forgiveness and harmony.

Those that can, do. Those that can't, preach.

I firstly want to tell you that islam has no versions but the one that Allah has given us . As the question is why are we devided it's just because of us that we have no respect for the others and we use the religion for our personal benefits. If someone's honest with the religion he has to respect all muslim of all sorts because there is a muslim brotherhood amoung us.

    Peace be upon you,

You are right! It is quite unfortunate that division happens within every religion. In the Quran, God tells us, in the the strongest words, NOT to divide our religion:

[3:103] You shall hold fast to the rope of GOD, all of you, and do not be divided...

[6:159] Those who divide themselves into sects do not belong with you. Their judgment rests with GOD, then He will inform them of everything they had done.

So why do the Muslims as well as other religions divide? the answer is in the Quran:

[2:213] The people used to be one community when GOD sent the prophets as bearers of good news, as well as warners. He sent down with them the scripture, bearing the truth, to judge among the people in their disputes. Ironically, those who received the scripture were the ones who rejected any new scripture, despite clear proofs given to them. This is due to jealousy on their part. GOD guides those who believe to the truth that is disputed by all others, in accordance with His will. GOD guides whoever wills in a straight path.*

When prophet Muhammed was alive there was only ONE scripture he delivered to us; the Quran. When prophet Muhammed was alive there was only ONE set of Muslims, not Sunnis, Shiates, Ahmadies, Malakies, Hanbalies, etc. When prophet Muhammed was alive there was only ONE source of religious law - The Quran, he never made up his own laws outside the Quran (6:114).

[6:114] Shall I seek other than GOD as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed? Those who received the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt.

It is also unfortunate that humans, regardless of their religious title, will always judge and condemn "the others". The culprit for such a behavior is the ego. Each one of us has it. Ego is the reason why we judge, condemn, blame, establish wars, and divide. In the Quran, as well as many other spiritual scriptures, "killing" or taming the ego is our ultimate goal to establish peace within ourselves and outside:

[45:23] Have you noted the one whose god is his ego? Consequently, GOD sends him astray, despite his knowledge, seals his hearing and his mind, and places a veil on his eyes. Who then can guide him, after such a decision by GOD? Would you not take heed?

Although people will always divide, perhaps it is also important to respect "the others" views, understanding, persepctives and belief:

[16:125] You shall invite to the path of your Lord with wisdom and kind enlightenment, and debate with them in the best possible manner. Your Lord knows best who has strayed from His path, and He knows best who are the guided ones.

[6:135] Say, "O my people, do your best, and so will I. You will surely find out who the ultimate victors are." Certainly, the wicked will never succeed.

    Peace

    J.S.
