What would YOU, do. If this happened to you?
This after noon, I was at a stop light. turning left onto a on ramp of the breezeway. I was halfway through the turn, when I heard tires squealing and a motor revving. I looked right and saw a black tricked out pickup truck. Racing by me in the turn, so hard he almost spun out. Just in front and to the right of me. He then raced past a pickup truck right in front of me, barley in control, almost side swiping it. That pickup had a guy and two young kids in it. This guy never slowed down, as he hit the breezeway, doing well over 100mph. I lit off after him, but by the time I got around the traffic. He was almost gone, half mile down the road. I was doing 100+mph and he was pulling away.
I slowed down, knowing that the Jackson police department likes to radar the breezeway. Sure enough they stopped him. I pulled up behind the cop and started yelling at the ********. The cop called for backup, as he was trying to keep me away from this guy. After letting this 20 or 30 something guy know. Just how far up his a$$ I was going to stick me boot.
The backup arrived, then the two cops calmed me down enough. To tell them what happened. I thought I was going to be arrested, but the cops were cool and let me go. As I pulled away, I saw them put the guy in the back of a cruiser.
Now I'm curious, as to what someone else would have done, in my place. This guy, could have killed not only me. But that guy and two kids, in that other pickup. Sometimes there is no substitute, for a beat down.
I didn't, because the cops were there. This also goes beyone simple road rage. This guy didn't just cut me off. He delibratly drove, that way.
BFH; It's a good thing I'm not you, you give bikers a bad name. Tell me do little kids, push you around and steal your milk money.
Bart; I' not normaly the kind of guy, who gets all that pissed off. If someone does something stupid on the road, no sence in getting mad about it. But this guy was not just being stupid, he was well beyond that.
And Bart, any time you think your more of a man than me. Your, welcome to look me up. I'm easy to find, since I seem to be the only one on the web, with my name.
Gordon; I din't have time to get his plate number. I was trying to avoid hiting the truck he almost side swiped.
Fozzy; Yea, it would not be the first time I got taken away, just because I'm a big scary biker.
Tim; I'm normaly the calm one in the group, it takes a lot to piss me off. But when someone does something to endanger, not only my life but others. Well that pisses me off in a big way. The guys was lucky I was alone. If he had pulled that kind of crap around, a large group of patch holders. He might be dead now, dispite the cops. There are some things, you just don't do.
Polarbear; I'm not to suprized, I didn't get to spend the night as a guest of the village. My ungle was at one time, the chief of police. I'm going to keep an eye on the case. I told the cops, I would be a witness. But most likely, the guy will only get a speeding ticket.

I probably would do close to the same thing... although there's not a cop anywhere that could keep me from getting my hands around this guy's throat at least for a few seconds. It would be worth the pepper spray and 4 hours in cuffs. Things of this nature are public record: get the particulars, contact the DA and offer to testify. That will ensure he gets whats coming and give you true satisfaction that the system, although flawed, sometimes works even for us bike riders.
perhaps he may get a cell with "bubba"... that will give a new meaning to "rode" rage. hahahaha
btw: "man up" advice from the barts?? that sounds real good coming from someone that epitomizes the definition of poser. yeah it happens to him all the time because he's got no business out in the middle of the road on a frickin 10 speed.
.....and, uh... no I do not have Bud's with posers, mealy mouthed punks, or any other self-aggrandizing jerk...
I'm a boilermaker man. all night long. hard and heavy. Jagermeister in the winter from the freezer... all night long.

Well I would have been upset. I don't think I'd have done the high speed chase but I'd have followed him hoping he'd stop at a gas station or something. Say something to provoke him in front of the cameras, that way I could whip the pig snot out of his dumb ace and call it self defense with the footage to back me up.
Once I saw the cops though, I'd have just kept going. Here in the south, an angry big black guy is usually greeted with a billy club, pepper spray, and sometimes hot lead. Then they'd say calm down.
I'm a new dad and I'm finding stuff like this makes me mad too. I have to think now though. If I go to knock this guys teeth out he may have a gun and take me out. He's in a truck, I'm on a bike, he can just run me off the road or something worse.

I probably would have done the same. I think it was ok to tell the cops, hopefully they throw additional charges at him. I used to take off peoples rear view mirrors for such things. Most often than not anymore, I just give them the look and a f*** you and ride off. I kinda get more nervous about if they might be packing. I live in the mini van capital of the world. I also drove a service van for years and no how bad visibility is in them. If I think it was unintentional I let it slide and chock it up to the price of being free.

You were given a scare, by someone threatening your life (in your view and probably any sensible person's). But your reaction is beyond what is acceptable, it is natural for a few moments of adrenaline rush – followed by a few moments of reflection. If you had ridden up behind the police and, when he had a spare moment, offered to make a statement rather than wasting police time by forcing him to call for backup, you would have achieved more. It is rare enough for prats like that to be stopped, so when they are, the police need (calm, collected) witnesses to make the heavier charges stick.
You are also not doing yourself any favours if you cannot control your anger – rash instinctive action mixed with a bike can be a recipe for disaster.

I think you handled the situation pretty well, considering the circumstances. While a beat down might have been preferable with this idiot, at least you came out of it ok. As for the people crying about anger management issues, if there is ever a time to be angry, it's when a ton of metal operated by an inconsiderate azz hole almost plows into you and several other people, then continues to endanger others with their reckless behavior.
Hey, may be the guy was working for the government. They seem to do that kind of thing on a daily basis!

Though your intentions were good you were in fact in the wrong.
You are not a police officer and you broke the speed limit to try and catch this idiot and in doing so endangered yourself & others with your speed then you threaten the guy with bodily harm - you were lucky the cops were decent !
You should have taken his number and all info of incident & notified the police !
You could have been in back of same cop car for speeding / dangerous driving & threatening behavior !
I agree with you BUT wrong is wrong in eyes of the law.
Take care & good riding.

I wouldn't have followed at that speed, but I would have followed. I would have talked to the cops after they got him pulled over. Screaming at the jerk would only get me bagged too, and nothing I had to say would make a difference to a jack like that.

I would have tried to press charges, for endangering the lives of several people. That guy shouldn't be on the road.
But then again, there's not much you could have done after the cops called the shots.

Scooter, Thank you - first off!
I guess I would have wanted to do the same thing but I wouldn't go 100 on my bike ever!
I was doing 45 and was almost killed.
I probably would have pulled over and called 911 to turn him in.
I'm glad they didn't arrest you!
