I get very upset about it simply because it is a completely preventable death.I can't understand how seemingly intelligent people continue to keep animals in a car on a hot day.If it is a hot day, leave your pet at home.Your pet will be more comfortable and safe.We shouldn't be surprised with the stupidity of people you read about people leaving children in cars as well.Such tragedies are 100% preventable simply by using common sense. EDIT I just found the article on a police dog that died after being left in the police vehicle for 13 hours. This poor dog should have been an extension of the officer involved.Did he get thirsty himself that day and not even wonder once during that 13 hors if his dog, his partner, was thirsty. How very sad because this dog is trained to take risks so there are reduced human casualties. This dog is trained to take risks and does what is expected of him..This officer let his partner down. Criminal charges should be laid because this dog was not just a member of the canine unit he was a member of the police force.

Cuddles you did the right thing by those dogs. Yes I would and have done just what you did, the guy is a jerk and has no right to own a dog much less three. I applauded you for what you did you were 100 o/o right to do what you did good for you. If you ever come across this again do the same thing you saved those dogs from a very nasty death.. The temp out side was 80 in side the car it could be 110 - 120 depending on car color if it was in direct sun. So you saved those dog don't ever second guess your self..

Yes, it makes my heart ache that people can be so cruel, I think anyone convicted of such a thing should be treated the same was as any murderer, and given a long prison sentence, just because the life they took was not human doesnt make it any less a heinous crime. I hope the person responsible suffers just like those poor animals did. What a horrible way to die.

Yes, my dog is 16 and is never left in the car in hot weather. In cooler weather she`s only left for at most 30 mins. She goes down the garden to do what she has to do but won`t stay out long. That`s why she`s lived to the grand old age of 16 !

So angry I am seeing red! Have not long received email from Blue Cross (I subscribe) that even with the window open it can take less than 10 minutes for a dog to die a horrible death due to overheating. If as I have read on this post, they were police dogs, then they should know better and should be kicked off the police force and prosecuted, and banned for keeping dogs for life. Having said that, the RSPCA don't follow up bans imposed by law, nor bother to come out to emergencies like they imply on TV. Two incidents in my area of dog fighting (deliberatly instigated by youths) ending in the death of one dog, and one of cruelty, and they didn't want to know!

  • I haven't heard the story, but it seems like every summer there is at least one story in the news about this type of thing. The Golden Rule not only applies to other people, but to animals too-Do unto others as you would have them do unto you= if you wouldn't want to be left in a car in hot weather, then you shouldn't leave anyone else, irregardless of species, in a car in hot weather.

EDIT-Here's a link for those of you who would like to read the article- http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/07/0...

Leaving dogs in a hot car is ignorance. I have two rottweilers and never leave them in the car at this time of year. They'd fry! Whoever left those dogs in that car should be prosecuted for animal cruelty, negligence and neglect. Whack them in jail and ban them from owning pets ever again.

Yes. The persons responsible should be locked up for a long time in one of their own cells with the heating turned on full blast.

    Yes, VERY angry.

I once heard on the news about a dog being tied up with an extension cord in a backyard and starved. It made me so pissed off, I wanted something awful to happen to the person who did it.

Yes how people can be so ignorant and thoughtless I don't know .. Dogs should be left at home in the hot weather
