Ohhhh yes! Went with Madras belt or a pink & black shirt/tie or pocket square combination....the lads used to call the little belt-buckle combo on the slacks or shirts "fairy hooks"...awwww. Ties were narrow, sometimes knitted [black was the basic] and seems as though the tie knot was the same width as the tie itself, remember? A favorite shoe was the off-white buck, which the uni types never cleaned...by the end of the semester they were kind of a sloth-dung shade. Mums had a tendency to throw them out when we got home for summer hols. The ultimate Ivy League look was gray flannel trou [twill or chino fabric for spring/summer], white shirt, madras or school tie for a belt, the white bucks, and--most important of all--a look of paralytic self-confidence with just the tiniest little sneer.

I've seen the change in the Bible Belt. The Bible is not the reason behind fitting in. Gainesville, Georgia is nic-named "little Mexico".

I remember them, and I even had some saddle shoes with those buckles on the back. What a trendsetter I was... :-)

In the UK we had snake belts, made of elastic, and the S of each end of the belt hook was shaped like a snake.

Yes, I remember that. I had a kilt type skirt that had one on it back in the early 60's.
