Beauchemin to Toronto?
http://community.post-gazette.com/blogs/emptynette...
IMO this deal DOES make the Leafs a much more intimidating team, but they're still missing things up front.
Thoughts?

Could this mean Heatley is making his way out now?

That is interesting, he seems to be really loading up on D-men. It makes sense he won his cup in Anaheim with a stacked D although as good as some of the signings are I don't see a pronger and or a neidermayer on that D. beauchemin will help them but all this talk of moving Kaberle makes no sense to me, they need a puck moving D-man and Kaberle is one of the better ones.
He does need to find some offence somewhere, not much up front.
Kovalev to Ottawa, should be a good fit. I will miss him here in Mtl.
Toronto now has
kaberle at 4.25 M
Komisarek at 4.5 M
beauchemin at 3.8M
Finger at 3.5M
Mike Van Ryn at 3.35
Exelby at 1.7M
that's six Nhl dmen
Plus Luke Schenn, Ian white and Frogren. Obviously he plans to deal somebody. The only marketable ones other than his recent signings are Schenn and kaberle. He won't move Schenn and I think kaberle is a mistake- see above.

I'm pretty with Beauchemin. I mean Burke said we were going to get tougher and he has Clearly done that! I mean he;s making it scared for other teams to pass our blue line... It's a god thing! But Toughness isn't going to win the cup... Burke's done great on defense now I wanna see what he can do up front. We need the Skill too!
And I am also happy with the entry lever sign with Nazem Kadri!
Sens signing Kavalev is great for them too. As a Leafs Fan not So great. But I think he can really help Ottawa. Make the team better. And I do think this is a sign that Heatley will no longer be a Senator.

Beauchemin Surely will add some grit and some power on the blueline. A good signing by Burke.
I am ecstatic about Kovalev signing with Ottawa. Now I really can't wait for next season.
As for Heatley, I sure as hell hope so. You don't want to be here, we don't want you here!

All part of the master plan to play four defencemen and one forward next year.
Failing that...my guess is Kaberle's price is now a forward who can score goals.
Jokes aside...at his initial press conference he said he wanted truculence, pugnacity, testosterone...he wasn't bulls**tting.
VanRyn...he's a great player "when healthy".
I also saw Kadri signed an entry level deal.
Look...as a fan, Burke is establishing an identity. A "this is who we are" mentality (and with Burke dealing solely with North Americans, a certain CBC commentator must be thrilled beyond words). I got tired of seeing teams come into Toronto and beat up on the Leafs. That won't be the case next year.

Both teams look good. Ottawa has really picked it up since late last year. I expect them to make the playoffs.
Toronto looks very nice on D. Now lets find some offense.
Source(s): ** I heard Heatley wants to be on Ottawa, but disagrees with the team's coaching staff. Whether or not Heatley wants to be traded or not, he is still a fantastic hockey player, and I hope he stays. - FrogdogLv 61 decade ago
I'm not buying it till its on TSN, that article said according to sportsnet, and sportsnet is not a very good source.
EDIT: ok I believe you, now that it's on TSN lol. This is good for the leafs, but probably won't get them into the playoffs....

Burke is not trying to build a CUP team in one year.. he is smarter than that (see TBL).. he is adding the toughness and Defense it will take to get others to come join TOR and make them a complete team! It will take a few yrs to complete his Final Roster!

Ohhhhh I like what Burke's doing. I know he has haters but this year it looks like he's working on strengthening the defense, next year it'll be the offense (but maybe sooner). He's one smart cookie and Leaf fans can't wait for next season.

It is good and TSN just reported it that it has happened.
