How to get rid of a racoon in my yard.?

I have a pesky racoon(s) that comes in my yard, comes up on my deck and uses it for a bathroom just in front of the deck doors. Any real suggestions for getting rid of them would be appreciated.

Your best bet is to hire a professional to set raccoon traps, especially since several states require only licensed professionals to set them.

Otherwise, you can try bungee cords on the tops of garbage cans and to clean up all food (pet food, perhaps, or bird feeders) which is outside.

Folk lore is that predator urine, such as fox, or moth balls can be a deterrent if sprayed around the area they invade. But I know as many people who swear by them as those who swear they do not work.

We just moved into a new house last year and had our first experience with the damn rascals. Not fun!!

A couple of suggestions from others worked pretty well. Try one or two...

One - leave a piece of clothing outside where they are coming around. They can sense the smell of humans on our clothing and it keeps them away.

Two - lights. They do scatter away from lights. Sounds DO NOT work. We've tried slamming things and it doesn't even phase them.

Three - keep all and any food scents away. They're definitely attracted to garbage.

Lastly - stores have these electronic pest controllers which I've heard work pretty well. It basically looks like a glade plug-in. You plug it into an outlet (hopefully you have one outside) and it sends some kind of pitches out that keep all types of rodents and animals away.

Good luck. They are EXTREMELY annoying to deal with. Hope one of these works for you!

We had pretty much the same problem last year; pesky rascals would hiss at you and chase you into the house. They can carry rabies, so be careful. My neighbor bought a trap and baited it with apples and peanut butter. We caught 3 of them and moved them to the country - we are in the city limits.

Water gun. Just open the door and use a blaster gun and spray the raccoon. He'll quickly learn your yard is not a nice place to be. Works for me just fine, we have lots of raccoons, and generally get rid of them that way--- possums on the other hand are just so stupid they don't learn.

get a snake. let it loose in the yard. The racoon will scatter 50 miles from you. but then you will have a snake problem.

Any kind of a terrier dog would do the trick. Really, they attacked any thing that moved in my garden, squirrels, June beetles, opossum, rats, lizards, etc.
