It depends... Does the crook feel guilty for stealing from the blind man?

Well there may well have been a change in things. I know a lot of dedicated people, many now retired, who chose US civilian service (I don't mean politics) rather than private research etc. despite lower pay, because they wished to serve the country. I honestly couldn't say what their political leanings were because that's not why they were in service.
I guess it depends on the individuals and the created positions, which can change according to who is running the show. I do wonder if security clearance standards are what they used to be. Partisanship and ideology rather than professionalism and competency seems to play a big part in things now; ideology is a poor substitute for ideas, and party loyalty isn't what American citizens pay government employees for, ostensibly at least.

The problem is the ones we can't figure out what they do, at all; anytime making 250k & up. There is plenty if supervision of the rank & file. Way more than is needed in the vast majority of education & basic services frittering away the benevolence of the tax payer extorted contribution.

Does it matter...
If you're the type to actually appreciate working for your paycheck, a slow-mo government job, however you are remunerated, is like a living Hell...
People who like these type of non-jobs are probably non-lifers too!

That's why they get into government work in the first place!
ALL government employees, including elected officials, bureaucrats, consultants, contractors, administrative personnel and others should only earn what the lowest-paid PFC in the U.S. Army earns.
Government employees (especially members of Congress) tend to forget that they are public servants, NOT privileged royalty. -RKO-

No.
Does anyone ever feel good that they are being exploited? Wow, being paid $8/hour, when, without your labour, the product and/or service would not exist. The people who own the business profit from your labour because they own stuff!
Hell, I would love a government job. We shouldn't have to settle for less. After all, it is the workers who produce the stuff.

No because they have no Shame. Good example is Senator Grassly from Iowa.
