Camera not turning on: battery bad? charger not working?
I have a Sony Cyber-shot digital camera and it worked fine for about 2 years. Today, when taking photos, I got a battery icon that I had never seen before: it was black with a slash across it. Soon afterwords, the camera turned off by itself. I assumed that batteries had run low, so I recharged battery with charger as usual. After a few hours, I put battery back into camera, but camera still does not work. Sometimes the screen turns on then off right away, other times, it doesn't turn on at all.
So what do you think is wrong? Bad battery? Bad battery recharger? Or something wrong with camera itself?
Thanks in advance.

Try a few different things to narrow it down.
The symbol which appeared on the camera sounds like one which usually represents flat batteries. However, it could be a problem with wiring or the terminals inside the camera preventing it from receiving enough power from your batteries.
If your camera takes AA batteries It could be that your re-chargeable batteries need to be replaced, so perhaps pick up a set of high powered lithium (single use) batteries at the store and try them out. If the camera works, you know it is not a fault with the camera.
If this is the case, we then need to determine whether the fault is with your batteries or the charger. You could buy a new set of rechargeable batteries and check that they charge correctly. If they do, it was the old batteries, if they don't, it may be the charger.
If you find that the fault is with your camera, you could try cleaning the terminals inside the battery compartment of your camera with a cotton bud, or take it to a specialty store where they may be able to clean it out for you or isolate the problem.

in the event that they are rechargable batteries, Wal-Mart/objective/Walgreens. All of those places have rechargable battery chargers on the marketplace, albeit with rechargable batteries to pass with them.
