Who are your spiritual gurus?

I'm a firm believer that we should all ultimately be our own guru, however there have been many people who have played a significant role in guiding me along my spiritual path.

Almost everyone interested in spirituality has teachers: Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad or even the contemporary sort.

Mine follow in this order:

Thich Nhat Hanh

Buddha

Ram Dass

Nisargadatta Maharaj

Jiddu Krishnamurti

Alan Watts

Jesus

I want to know YOURS!

Update:

Nautilus: Buddha didn't deny Christ. Buddha lived 600 years before Christ.

BTW: Aimlessness is a Buddhist concept about obtaining enlightenment through non-seeking.

Update 2:

Peace! Lotus Flower: You're right on there.

Be well ;)

Update 3:

WillRogers: I'm right there with you!! Ultimately that is what I think as well.

Joseph Campbell- my muse for everything alternative.

Jung because he broke the mold.

Einstein because he had dimensional thinking.

Rabindranath Tagore - the ULTIMATE that not a lot of people are familiar with, just read his compilations to see just how far ahead he was for his time!

W.A. Visser't Hooft- I am still studying his works and had obtained an out of print edition from Amazon regarding syncretism- a very important subject that should be discussed more often and really hasn't seen the light of day- vastly under-rated.

Douglas R. Hofstadter- there's nothing negative I can explain about him, he encourages individualism to a high level that exudes comprehension and understanding in very simple terms.

Alice Miller because she delves into the psychosomatic and psychological markups of being.

David Allen Hulse- another muse of mine whose two books on eastern and western philosophies are literally my bibles! The guy is really awesome and thorough.

Stephen Walter Sterling- he has very complete layout for discerning between dimensional and wavelength theories. I use his work daily.

Jean-Yves Leloup because he has the courage to process gnostic values and tandem parallels, a genius.

Wallace Stevens because I just love his poetry, I believe all poetry speaks on so many levels.

I am an extremely spiritual individual and continue to enlighten myself, through daily meditations and prayers. I constantly study new ideas, theories, alternative philosophies and wouldn't have it any other way.

I also believe we all are own teachers, some just haven't experienced a higher consciousness, let alone attempt to get their feet wet in alternatives.

    Dhali Llama

Thich Nhat Hanh (actually they are abou the same for me)

    Siddhārtha Gautama

Budai (笑佛) also known as Qieci (契此)

    Quan Yin

As a Buddhist following the first precept; Do not be idolatrous about or bound to any doctrine, theory, or ideology, even Buddhist ones. Buddhist systems of thought are guiding means; they are not absolute truth.

I find that I take my life based on many men who lived. The Dhali Llama speaks publicly about peace love and anger (so does Thich Nhat Hanh) and currently they are the ones I listen to for hope in todays word.

Siddhārtha Gautama started Buddhism and spread his word to help monks across the lands.

Budai was always happy and laughing giving candy to the children. He never had to question Zen or other Monks he knew inside what his true meaning was and needed not to explain himself.

Quan Yin is the protector of all children and a reminds me of true motherly love

You know my teacher, and I know yours. The only thing necessary is the "realization".

We human beings share the same Teacher, Guru, Sheikh.

    They are "One".

Human beings have not developed the necessary "wisdom" to come to that "realization".

Just what is it, that one should follow?

Just who is it, that one should follow?

In the end there is only "One".

    One must follow the "One".

There are an untold number of teachers.

There are just not enough good students to go around.

They are all searching for just one good student.

Finding a good student within the world is extremely difficult and very rare.

At any given time there might be but a handful of good students within the world!

One must become a worthy child and an even worthier student.

That would be a good thing!

    "Peace be always within you."

    Hello Aimlessness,

I probably will get slammed for saying this, but other than mySelf, my Spiritual guru's are everyone, including nature and animals.

Im under the belief that we ALL have a message to offer, that helps us along our journey.

When I can look beyond my perceptions of differences and look with an open heart and mind for their message or gift....I usually find it.

The people who stick out more in my mind, are the ones who are willing to show the vulnerabilities....their perfect imperfections.

Something about that Light that AMAZES me!

    All Love,

    Peace!

No wonder your avatar is AIMLESS - following so many conflicting views must make you one confused person.

Buddha and Jesus don't jive. After all, Buddha denied Christ. So that makes one of them a liar.

How can we be our own gurus? The human heart is deceitful and not a reliable compass to follow.

Jesus Christ said "I am the way, the truth and the light." He is the rock of salvation and the only way to Heaven."

If you try to follow too many spiritual paths, you will be lost.

    Peace be to you all+
