Can someone explain the differences between a priest, reverend, minister and pastor? Or suggest a website?

I am exploring different churches, trying to find one I like. I don't want to be embarrassed by using the wrong term when speaking to the (insert title here). Any help is appreciated.

Priest comes from Leviticus which means Intercessor on behalf of God

Reverend or Father is a term which should not be used by Church leaders because it's a term that God calls himself by.

Minister is someone who takes personal involvement in people's needs

Pastor is someone who looks over a flock and feeds them.

You should call the Church leader A Pastor until he tells you what He wishes to be called.

I don't know about websites, but in the US, the term 'Priest" usually means a Roman Catholic, although some other churches, like Greek Orthodox and even Mormons have clergy called priests. In the Catholic Church only an ordained priest can say the Mass or give the Sacraments, like hear confessions or officiate a wedding, although sometimes other non-ordained people can lead some prayer services.

In most religions the term "Reverend" is used as a title of respect. In the Catholic church it can be used, although "Father' is usually used.

A Minister is usually a clergyman (or woman) in a Protestant denomination. A Pastor is often the head of a church. In a church with more than one minister or priest, the Pastor might be the lead clergyman, or more than one might be called "Pastor" In the Catholic Church, being pastor is a job, but usually pastors of a parish aren't called "Pastor Smith", it would be 'Father Smith is the Pastor of St. Mary's'. In a Protestant Church, he might be called 'Reverend Smith, Pastor of 1st Baptist', or just 'Pastor Smith'.

Saying "Reverend" to almost any clergyman would probably be OK. If he or she wanted to be called a different title they would probably say so, politely.

Priest is used by the Catholics for ministers. Reverend is an ordained Pastor of the Protestants. Pastors are graduates of the Seminaries of the Protestants but is not yet ordained. A Pastor must be recommended by the congregation in order to be ordained by the ordination council of a convention or denomination. They are all ministers in the sense that they are called by God to serve Him and minster to the people.

A pastor is a catch all term for a leader of the congregation, and you will never be wrong if you use it.

Priest is used in Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican/Episcopal churches.

Reverend is a title like Mr. or Mrs. I think it's only used in protestant churches though.

Not sure about the use of minister, I think a layperson can be a minister though.

Just use the word sir. All those other titles are just that. When you were in school and had a teacher, when you didn't know his name you were okay to call him teacher right. Well, most of these titles are self-made, so if you want to be respectful, just call him sir, or her mam and you'll be fine. I wouldn't give them credit of calling them anything more than that. They are no more than you and I. The Web is one of the best and safest places to start checking out religions instead of visits to these places, some require you cover your head, some require no shoes in the assembly, some want you to wear a kilt (skirt) yes even for men, or a shaved head. Some won't allow pants and so forth. Try to check them out on line at least before going. You might find that your the next virgin sacrifice at some places. lol check them out 1st b 4 going. I'm n the same boat. So far, nothing comes close to the truth since religion separates and they all hate each other. darn. They can't all be wrong, can they? Good Luck in your search :) Don't forget to look within yourself, you might find that your decisions you make determine your destiny, like if you steal, you'll go to jail, If you cheat, she will throw you out. and so on. hum...I wonder too!

They all are the same position but in different branches of christianity. Minister is traditionally with the Church of Christ. Priest is Catholic, Reverend is Baptist, and Pastor is used loosely within most

Priest - usually associated with the Roman Catholic religion

Reverend - from base word "revered" - used (mostly in the past) as a title indicating church leadership, also implying by the word itself, a state of holiness, which most Godly pastors today have dismissed as pretentious, giving glory to man instead of God.

Minister - also associated with a pastor, but it is also a descriptive characteristic of any christian who shares the gospel message with others and demonstrates God's love and mercy to others in more physical ways (providing food for instance) ie, "to minister to them."

The bible refers to servants of God as priests. They were the go betweens of the people. Catering to the needs of the people.

Reverend is not biblical and is frowned on by God.

Minister is a servant and is biblical.

Pastor is head man at HIS building.
