Why is it so hard for me to believe?
I truly want to believe in God, but every time I sit in youth group and listen to prayer or verses from the Bible, I can't help thinking that it's a load of bs. Am I the one that's wrong? I don't want to tell people that I don't believe in God because they see it as a taboo almost. I feel hypocritical being in church, but I want to believe.

If you truly want to believe in God you have to find your own path to God. I'm a Christian, I haven't been a member of a church in 3 years and I am more secure in my beliefs then I ever have before.
Perhaps the problem is you hear about belief but your not living it.
If you really want to be a believer you have to put your beliefs into action. And apply it to your real life.
Look at life from a spiritual point of view and you may find a better balance between logic and religion.
If you feel confused you should find a way to eradicate the source of ambiguity.
I would suggest you go on a spritual journey.
It could take a week or longer depending on how you feel.
Find the anwers to your questions any way you can.
Also check out other belief systems.
You may not like Christianity but maybe you will feel more comfortable in Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, etc.
That way by the end of your journey you will know what you believe in is right even if you find you don't believe in anything.
I know many people here are going to say "it's fake" or "your on the right path because there is no God" but honestly that is for you to decide. Not them and not me.
This is a decision that will effect you and only you in the end so you should make sure you look at all the possibilities and make a informed decision. That way you can be sure that the choice you made is one you will stand by and also one you will stand up for.

Maybe you need to try & get to the root of where your doubts re the Bible etc are coming from. What approach are you taking to it? For eg - the Bible is all Truth, but it's not a history book as such , although much of it is factual history. Some instruction on proper interpretation may help. At the same time you certainly should use your power of reason. Faith isn't apposed to it at all. Something in you wants to believe but "stops" you as it were. Other blockers can be pride, because Christianity demands surrendering to God fully & possibly making lifestyle changes.This leads to another problem - unconfessed sin. No I'm not saying you bad etc - but have an honest look at your life & see if there are inconsistencies in your life with Christianity. When you get that out of the way, simply ask God to reveal Himself to you, & wait quietly for Him to answer. God Bless

See im like you, well something like that, because i do believe in god, but not in the whole church and bible thing, i mean i do believe it but i don't think i have to go to church and read the bible and take it word for word, I suggest a good movie for you to watch, rent "Stigmata" i think that movie is so true, i don't want to give away the premises of the movie in case you didn't see it but the moral of the movie is that you don't have to go to church to believe in god, you pick up a rock and god is there, you crack a piece of wood in half and god is there, really good flick I think it will help you look at things a little different.

It's normal for you to feel this way if your spiritual need isn't being fulfilled. To find out if the Bible is true and what you are hearing in your youth group is the truth please go to:
www.watchtower.org
and do some research or you can even request that someone come visit you to help you see things more clearly (without pressure).
One verse that can help you to believe is Hebrews3:4 - Of course, every house is constructed by someone, but he that constructed all things is God.
So you have a starting point that God does exist based on his creation (it helped me to take people out of the equation to start with because they are causing too many problems but creation is simple and untainted).
The next stage is to prove that the Bible is really God's word (the website above can help you if you search for 'science and bible', prophecies, usefulness of bible).
Then when you are sure that the Bible is for real you can begin to compare it with what religions teach. One eg: Does the Bible really teach that Jesus is God? Does the Bible teach that we go to heaven or hell when we die? Is there hope for those who have died? Can we really be close to our heavenly Father?
There are so many questions (and answers) and this website will help you to find them. (If you can download mp3 files then you can go to jw.org there is a book (and others) called What does the Bible really teach? that you can download in whole or by chapter to help you find the answers to your questions).

You won't find God in church. The next time you are truly in desperation, ask for his help with sincerity. You'll be amazed at what happens. I was lucky. I found God when I was recovering from addiction. I was too petrified to face life without my drug, so I needed him. And I found him.
Also you don't have to believe exactly as the church people do. They think they have a corner on God. Like it's a private club and you have to be one of them to get in. It's not true. God is for everyone.

You do what you want to do. Do not listen what others say. They have their reality, their beliefs.You have yours, so are other 6 billion people on this planet.
Remember our mind is power full and create reality based on our beliefs, because what you believe, it is true for you, otherwise you would not believe.
We create everything in our mind. See you can not force yourself to love somebody, it happens, it is same with beliefs. You can not just make yourself to believe in God. It must happen. But don't worry, there are many religions in the world and each is true for their believers. So which one is true? - get my point.
You are creating your reality, your world and what others think or do does not matter because they creating theirs. I said creating because reality, the way you perceive it is nothing else but your creation. Truth does not have intrinsic value. It is what you make it to be.
Have an opened mind and good luck.

It all depends on what your interpretation and definition of God is. Being skeptical or agnostic is good, it means you are thinking critically. Atheism is definitely wrong, because atheism doesn't believe in even the possibility of God or a higher power, and that presumes you know more than any person who has ever lived and who will ever live. Who's to say science won't make discoveries that call into question everything you think you know? Most people's argument's against the existence of God fall short because they assume God is bound by the laws of science when God exists outside of the laws of science. Don't get hung up on the words of religion or the Bible and remember Jesus said the TRUTH in the word shall set you free, he didn't say the word shall set you free. Christ also said follow me, he didn't say follow my followers and man has a propensity to use religion and spirituality as a social control mechanism for his own ends. Be analytical and question it, that's the right path. God didn't create robots, he gave us free will and determination to choose our own path. If you choose to seek out God, you will find the Truth, the question is will you know it if you see it or will you mistake something else for the Truth. Wanting to believe is having faith that you will find God.

Look for the beauty that God has given to you. He knew you before you were born. He is your Father in Heaven and you are His child. He loves you no matter what. God is Love.
Just pray and keep reading the Bible--whatever speaks to you. Psalms is wonderful. A lot of people have points in their lives where they begin to doubt. I know that in my hardest trials, God has been with me and answered my prayers in amazing ways that I did not expect. Pray and ask God to help you see and feel him. Look at the sky and the clouds traveling by, the little hummingbirds, the ways bees pollinate our flowers and the way they communicate to each other by dancing different dances, the many flavors and textures of food, our amazing bodies--a true wonder, the smile on a child's face and the innocense in his eyes, the majesty of the mountains, the power of a lightening storm, the smell of flowers, the way the whales sing, the mightiness of the ocean's waves, the gemstones inside our earth, the touch of a human hand, a hug in time of need, tears for joy, tears for sadness, the wind--how it feels, how it sounds.... all this God gave to us.
Peace Be With You.
The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall not want;
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters;
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for His name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil;
for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the
Lord forever.
Psalm 23

Don't tell people who believe it is a load of BS, let them believe what they want. No need to cause drama. However, do no continue to sit in church everyday if you do not believe. It's just silly. If you are trying to find your way to God or whatever, voice your concerns to your youth pastor or pastor in a private meeting. I'm sure they can help you "see the light" or whatever!

Did you know listening to words with human ears is completely different from listening with spiritual ears that God has provided? That may be one of the many reasons why it's hard for you to believe.
If it is difficult for you to listen and accept all the bs-sounding nonsense, that can also mean you're not particularly willing to take it all in. It'll be best for you to pray beforehand, "God, please come down in power and show me truth, so that I may believe in what YOU want me to believe."
Also, if those church members judge you, that's their fault. Remember, all churches aren't perfect, and its a place for those sinners. So, forgive them. They will learn one day. :D
I hope this answer helped you in any little way possible.
