As I don't think there is a scientific theory about what happens after death - other than rigor mortis, decay etc.

The question is a straw man - an imaginary scenario created so it can be argued against.

An atheist is generally accepted to be someone who does not believe in the supernatural. An "atheist" who believed in some kind of afterlife would not be an atheist.

They would be some kind of spiritualist or animist or some other of the myriad variety of quasi-religions.

Atheists usually are skeptical of the supernatural because there isn't a SHRED OF EVIDENCE SUPPORTING IT.

That's the definition of observational deductive reason in the scientific process.

Some atheists believe in life after death, ghosts, and other supernatural things - just not gods.

The only qualifier for being an Atheist is simply no belief in the supernatural.

No afterlife.
